In the marine/underwater enviroment most manufactures use two o'rings in critical areas eg end caps which are opened often and single o'rings in static locations only to be replaced during regular service.
through my own experience the second o'ring has saved the day.
only my opinion know data...
It has a much higher expansion rate than steel
The uv problem can be overcome by painting the pipe.
another plastic you could also look into is abs but cost might be an issue.
ps - u stands for unplasticized pvc what does c stand for?
for bores up to 1" in length i just us a pick set and a flat faced bar to manipulate the o'ring in place
a suggestion for a longer bore might be to turn a shaft down
leaving a shoulder at one end .2mm smaller than the bore and turn the rest of the shaft down to the bore size minus 2x the...
Hi Bushman
I am not sure from your above post if you are making a one off or not?
If its a one off an idea might be to machine up an outer and inner ring
Drill holes(snug fit for the nylon bristles)in the outer ring and press the bristles though the holes sticking though say 10mm and then press...
hi justy
your local o'ring supplier should be able to provide you with o'ring groove specifications for static and dynamic sealing these are fairly standard. If you are machining o'ring grooves in plastic you will need to reduce the dimensions in compression slightly as plastic has more movement...
Hi stella
i was just curious as to why your making the camera domes out of polycarb wouldn't perspex give a better clarity then polycarb?you can also polish perspex.
in regards to the above maybe its somthing to do with uneven cooling of the product after molding only a thought.
for the second...
Hi
I would be going for something a little more dimensionally stable in water. i take it that the above valve will be going in sea water and relieving pressure when ascending to the surface.nylon has a problem with absorbing water which in turn changes its dimensions. if you want to use nylon...
Hi Mike
Look up deepsea.com they have software called(under pressure design software) on a cd that will calculate wall and endcap thickneses in various material they have a demo on there site.
