I tried posting this in the Chemical Plant Design forum, but perhaps this is a better place. Apologies for cross-posting. My question was as follows:
We are looking at a new offshore oil & gas facility where we want to install a heating medium system. The heat will come from several WHRU on...
If you want to achieve 99% C3+ in your product stream, you will most likely require some serious distillation to get rid of your C1&2s. I very much doubt chilling alone will get you that far.
Hi StoneCold,
thanks for taking the time. The system (if glycol/water) will indeed have to pressurized, but at a much higher pressure than what would be the case for a hot oil system. My dilemma here is that I personally think a HO system would be better in terms of simplicity, lifetime...
Thanks for that swift reply, moltenmetal. Very much appreciated!
The return temperature will be at least 30°C (86°F), so I don't anticipate any viscosity issues here.
Hi all,
We are looking at a new offshore oil & gas facility where we want to install a heating medium system. The heat will come from several WHRU on gas turbin outlets. Operating temperature of the system will be around 170°C (340°F), and the proposal is to go for a glycol/water mixture. I...
Thanks all!
It is (unfortunately) a fiscal meter, although the measurement is only for injection gas, for which the company is obliged (and previously seemed to fail) to provide a minimum amount of throughput per day.
Indications are that measurement has been off by about 15-20%, but it...
We have an gas orifice meter that was wrongly installed, with the conical opening facing the wrong way. Unfortunately there are was external indication of flow direction, and assurances had been given that it was correctly installed - something that could probably justify a separate thread on...
What are the criteria for selecting the types of coolers for offshore oil & gas facilities? Am I correct in assuming that the advantages of air coolers are:
More reliable
Less maintenance intensive
Shorter lead times
What about overall weight/cost conpared to a sea water cooled system? The...
Hi,
I am trying to calculate heat loss from a pipeline in a forced convection (sea current) scenario. I have been going through several heat transfer textbooks, but all I can find are formulas for pipe bundles (for heat exchangers).
A bit of background info: In this particular case, we have...
Thanks guys,
the problem is that the deluge demand exceeds the pump capacity while the pumps are starting up, say for 15-20 seconds or so. During this period, the deluge valve will be wide open, but the two pumps required have still not reached full speed. The deluge valve opening causes a...
Hi all,
I hope someone out there could help me with this problem. We have an offshore installation with a total of 5 fire water pumps supplying the ring main. System is pressurized with a single jockey pump. Max total deluge load in a single fire zone requires two pumps to start up to meet...
Is there an easy way to calculate how high a N2 (or CO2) concentration one may have in a gas stream before flaring becomes impossible? Calculating calorific value is easy enough, but it does not tell me when I reach the LEL.
Cheers!
Dear all,
I just posted this before leaving work on Friday afternoon, and I am overwhelmed by the response - don't you people take weekends off? :-)
Anyway, to clarify somewhat - the system in question is a water injection one, and the two existing WI systems (two recip & two centrifugal...
