Welding to Concrete Filled Hollow Steel Sections

Steel roof trusses are welded to steel embeds that are placed in concrete on top of the bond beam of CMU walls. I have seen them done the day after the concrete was in place without any issues. This situation maybe a little different due to the concrete being encapluated in the steel tube. I...

    MPG loss with 10% ethanol---

Ethanol has less BTU's per gallon. Therefore to maintain the same power output the engine requires for fuel.

    AWD Pushrod front suspension design

Wolf you are partially correct. You can still have a pushrod system by placing the attachment on top of the A-Arm. You could do it several ways but the a-arm would incorporate both the a-arm function and bell crank function in one part. Early F1 cars did this in the 60's or so.

    diesel vs gas

I am a engineer. I am not looking for a detailed report on the differences with temp and pressure graphs. All I am asking for, is if someone has experience with both types of engines to say engines of comperable size and power rating. ie: "Diesel cylinder pressures are about 10 to 15% higher...

    call me crazy

haha thats what my fiance says haha. I know it's doable and I will hire a structural engineer but I was wondering what everyone here thought. I've never built or reviewed plans of one so I don't know how it differs from a parking garage other than on a smaller scale. What is a stepped garage?

    call me crazy

Guys and Gals I have moved to a area that is very sloped. Not many flat land options. I am considering building a two story garage. Both stories capable of storing cars. Each floor would be 1200 Sqft. with concrete floors. The first floor would be built into the land with the garage doors...

Machine shop responsibility to comply with "Industry Standard".

Have any of you also seen the note " must meet quality workmenship standards" I saw that on a print at a company i worked at and asked the engineer what he meant by that. His response "make sure that it's done correctly even if i missed something" I told him to remove it from the print and...

    Polyeurathane foam

yes but we are having problems with them. They are a very large company and not really offering any solutions. In the past we have relied heavily on our suppliers as we don't have any internal experts but we changed suppliers because the previous supplier is out of business. So we are looking...

700hp 300ci pushrod V8 race engines how do they do it?

Does anyone have any more details on the blocks and heads and rules for these cars. I know the fine details will be left out for obvious reasons but maybe some generalities. For example do what range of stroke or bore do they use.

    Inboard suspension and shock hysteresis

Jim I agree with the dirt bike analogy but in that case the shocks work well because the closer the shock is to the pivot point the smaller the shock and still get adequate suspension travel. The shocks are also valved for those conditions. However, lack of adjustability can be offset by...
