Can anyone direct me to a source or sources of statistics on tank fires, rim fire, and loading rack fires? Either percentage based, or quantity. I'd like to see what percentage or how many/year of each occurs, to help make decisions to the importance of the various systems.
Has anyone seen feedback from EPA or local DEP/DEQ organizations that address the applicability of the "oil sheen" test used for containment dike discharge (NPDES), and the fact that ethanol does not produce the "sheen"? How would an operator verify lack of ethanol product in the contained...
stookeyfpe, thanks for your very clear and informative response.
The request was for hazard analysis done based on a fuel release and the thermal impact on the secondary tank and surrounding properties. These are field-erected tanks with IFRs, with worst-case product of gasoline.
I have...
A local jurisdiction fire marshall has asked us to, as a portion of permitting, submit a Fire Hazard Analysis on the proposed installation of two ASTs - heat output, risk to adjacent tanks, fire probabilty, overfill probability, etc. We designed to NFPA and API, but I have no background on a...
I'm trying to locate some standardized tank truck sizes, length, width, turn radius, etc, to do a preliminary layout for a load rack. I cannot seem to find anything in particular. Is there standardized sizes, rules of thumb, any help at all?
I am trying to estimate the wind load's effect on a loading of a ringwall foundation for a vertical steel tank. Tank itself is not anchored to the ringwall (yet). Height to Diameter ratio is 4/9. I've got wind speed for the area and all the tank info available.
I have an application for a large motor (4000HP) mounted to 10 ft aboveground concrete foundation and am looking for a anchor method/style which would allow for replacement of (at least) the visible portion of the anchor bolts if they are damaged (which they have been previously). The...
sailoday28, buried pipe is closed off by isolation (gate)valves. we've isolated the line and drained the non-isolated connecting pipe to see if it is leakage, and it is not.
StoneCold, leak is the concern. However, we believe there is no leak as (1) the recent pipe pressure test was...
I probably did not use the right terminology to describe. As it seems to be working, the fluid is at ambient (70-80degF) in the aboveground tanks. If the process is stopped, this 70-80 degF fluid stops in the buried pipe, which is at 50-55degF, and the fluid cools to "below-grade ambient". As...
Does anyone have experience with pressure dips in buried pipe - we are looking into the possibility it is based on 'cold' ground and pipe. The fluid is moved from aoveground tanks thru buried piping to remote stations, and occasionally it is held below grade (such as shutdown overnight). When...
Does anyone know how API 650 deals with non-circular drawoff sumps? A contractor misread the drawing, and built a square sump in the center fo the tank bottom. API 650 Figure 3-15 shows all dimensions as 'diamater' and such, but also says that the sump shall be per figure/table unless...
I did locate the equivalency section in NFPA 30. Thank you.
There are 18 gensets on site (9 pairs) with belly tank for each. No AST or UST is used to provide backup fuel to the belly tanks. This is for an industrial facility. We have exceeded the tank-building separation and genset...
