Thermal Expansion - Elastic and Plastic Deformation

A while back I designed a Weld Jig for an Assy and the shop came back and asked if they could use it to anneal and heat treat while it was still in the Jig. Without thinking I said ok. Now that is the last Assy that jig can be used for because it all shrunk. I would guess you get my point...

Twin Charged Alfa 33 calling Madmac666

Isky has an ‘o’ ring grove tool that is used by hand They rent it out for 60 bucks I have never used it but the fact that it is a responsible company and that it is still available says something http://www.iskycams.com/onlinecatalog.html plus Isky Accessories plus o ring Cheers I don't...

    New Engine Break-In

Amen e21jps I have been privileged to work with some pretty talented drag race engine builders and have seen personally a piston and ring set out of an engine that was broke in per mfg. suggestion and a brake in on a dyno with some hard pulls. The carbon never made it past the top ring on the...

    Future aircraft design

I did think of the tail engine in the DC10 when I posted the "fall off" remark. That’s why I included the idea we could make it stronger to survive a blade out anywhere. Although I have seen the MD11 engine and pylon (or maybe it is just called a mount) up close and personal and I don’t...

    Future aircraft design

I was thinking somewhere between Airbus' new ‘intelligent’ body and the B2 We design nacelles to survive a blade out now and Iam sure we could contain more damage if needed. At least an in body won’t fall off ala DC10 Another advantage would be less prone to bird strikes as the in body engine...

    Future aircraft design

I just had a discussion with one of my colleges and was wondering if we were working on one of the last nacelle engine mounts for aircraft. My belief is that in-body planes are more fuel efficient and will accommodate more passengers’ for the size. What are some thought along this line of...

Is there a way to identify the parts or product that wants to be updated CATIA V5 Thanks I don't know anything but the people that do.

    'Normal' oil consumption

I use oil in my 10 year old Z06 and I was told it was from ring flutter when running at high RPM without load. I guess it would be the long sweeping corners where your not really pulling but feathering the throttle. I don't know anything but the people that do.

    Roller crank question

Thanks all; I knew it was an issue if every other roller bearing I looked at was with inserts I think I will remake the crank pin out of 8620 or is there something better. Thanks again I don't know anything but the people that do.

    Roller crank question

I’ve made a three piece crank that will use two sets of Corilla rods for a 750 Harley That said my question is will the rod journals made of 4340 HT to R/c 48-50 and nitride to 60c hold up as well as an 8620 HT to R/c 60-62. My concern is that I have not seen a set of roller cranks or rods...

    Scoffolding trap door

I am looking for a leaf or trap door design to be used in aircraft scaffolding. The design I remember was a light weight door that you lifted up and it dropped down in a slot at the pivot. Any confirmation or help will be appreciated. I don't know anything but the people that do.

    Flexible Ceramic

Thanks for the help One thing to add is the combustion seal is taken care of with .010 soft cooper gasket top and bottom and that works well. I looked into the boron and silicon nitride both are expensive I got a quote of 2600.00 for a 92mm ID 98mm OD 3mm thick with 4 1mm horizontal radial...

    Flexible Ceramic

The working environment is a 1000cc twin cylinder Moto Guzzi with the head modified to accommodate the increase in thickness and maintain the original cr. To prototype this was to be the easy part as we were preparing for the difficult engine mapping of fuel and ignition. That said with very...

    Windscreen manufacture for project car

If using a plastic a thin film may be an easy way to replace any wear or scratches. I have ridden in a car with a plastic windscreen and besides vision distortion the direct sun diffused and blinded us for a while. Although that was some time ago I am sure the new acrylics are much better. I...

    Windscreen manufacture for project car

I watched a special on the Cubans making the old cars survive and they were re-molding the Russian windshields in a steel tool. I would think the steel would break the glass with delta T or CTE at any rate they figured it out some how. If you could find a close fit a water knife can cut the...
