    Synchronize Generator with UPS

Waross good point. Yes the electric heating is controlled by discrete relays and after shutting them down as well as many sewer ejection pump systems, it greatly reduced the generator from hunting and allowed us to eventually synchronize the UPS. I will investigate that option you mentioned and...

    Synchronize Generator with UPS

The UPS is a 5 year old Liebert 225KVA 480-480, 2 battery cabinets with (30) UPS12-475 batteries in each. The system is currently 50% loaded. We have never had a problem with the inverter going to bypass while on generator power since commissioning this new generator a little of two years now...

    Synchronize Generator with UPS

Thanks for the quick responses. waross - yes, the ATS transfer is an open transition. The entire 2500A switchboard to the facility is backed up from the generator. We have performed bi-annual load tests to this generator by simulating loss of utility power 5 times since commissioning the new...

    Synchronize Generator with UPS

I had a situation occur this weekend at our data facility. We lost utility power to the building for about 5 hours. The generator started ok and picked up the load. Unfortunately, the UPS was not able to carry the servers during this 10-12 second ATS transfer. It was discovered both UPS battery...

    AVO / Metrosoft / Megger PA9

The Metrosoft software you use to extract the data from the box has the option to export the reports to .txt. I found using notepad or MS word works well to edit/modify/or add info easily. Most times I would just print the report to a PDF rather than the printer anyway. Hope that helps!

Proper X0 bond and parallel current imbalance

It may have been possible to take additional load readings, and if I was present I have a tendency to spend the extra time but it wasn't in our initial scope of work. Our company is located within a very competitive marketplace, it's difficult sometimes to spend additional time taking current...

Proper X0 bond and parallel current imbalance

I agree about the grounding conductors not required, in fact I have only ever see this twice in the ten years I have been doing testing and maintenance. It's the first time I have ever seen current on these "green" grounding conductors though, and this imbalance makes me more curious. waross -...

Proper X0 bond and parallel current imbalance

During a routine IR scan of a facility's main 4000A switchboard we discovered the following abnormality. First off, the service entrance is underground 4" PVC duct bank consisting of (10) parallel sets of (4)500 MCM,& 3/0 insulated green equipment grounding conductor for 3PH, 4W, 480/277V. The...

    Police Station 911

Thanks for the helpful answers. I am going to purchase the NFPA 1221 to verify if the 911 system should be considered as a life safety branch. The existing engine is an Onan 45KW, I would like to upgrade to a 60KW and have it fit the existing foot print in the basement. Cummins can accomodate...

    Police Station 911

I was asked to review a possible upgrade of an existing standby natural gas generator at a small police station in Massachusetts. Currently the required life safety lighting and fire alarm system is battery back up and this generator was added some years later. Over the years branch circuits...

    Hospital Isolated Power Panels

Thanks all for the info...DanDel, those were the procedures I was thinking of performing. I didn't think about reversing the polarity, good idea. I built a test set using a rotary switch with resistors and milliammeter to simulate and monitor ground leakage ranging from 1mA to 9mA. By using...

    Hospital Isolated Power Panels

Yes, hard copy is available but unlike all other distribution equipment's NEMA recommended maintenance these panel boards recommend contacting local Square D field services office. They do not want to offer their procedures they just want to perform them. :)

    Hospital Isolated Power Panels

Hi, I am new to this forum and hope someone can lead me in the right direction. I have been a service technician at a local hospital for years providing power quality monitoring, infrared inspections, energized and de-energized equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting on many aspects of the...
