What's the significance of the 4 ball wear test to oil performance?

I can't think of anything, in the engine that would resemble the test. Is this much like the Dura-Lube bearing wear test?

What's the significance of the 4 ball wear test to oil performance?

A certain company touts this particular test, ASTM D-4176, to why their product is superior to the competition. I've heard that the 4-ball wear test does not apply to real world conditions. Anyway care to comment?

Keeping Intake cold and exhaust hot?

For intake air temperature, by sheer thermodynamic fundamentals (See Otto cycle) alone, increases efficiency. For dyno testing...many companies who make manufacture and sell intakes, when they show the dyno plot of horsepower gains, they usually show the best run, the earlier runs, before heat...

    Design of Experiment

It's been awhile...but it could be very simple, very complex, or somewhere in between. If used properly it should work....it's really a planned out form of trial and error. You should be able to pick up texts on how to do a DOE.

How to compare different air filter design efficiencies

If you have a VW or Audi, you can get readings off of the OBDII computer, directly from the MAF sensor, if you have a VAG-COM.

Paint chipping in more environmentally safe paints

I remember reading about this stuff a while ago.... Can anyone refer me to resources (text, web, etc) that correlates the characteristic of water-based paints and their durability (compared to paints of yester-years)
