    Atmospheric Flash Tank - Turbine

We do two things: Vent Condenser: basically some coils in the vent piping with cold water in them. You heat up the water and the steam in the vent condenses. Or Water in the tank: We use a self contained cooling water valve and a spray nozzle. We spray right into the vent using a spray valve...

    Manual Valve Closing Times

You should get from the gear operator and valve information the total number of turns required. I once did a job at a chemical plant where they put electric actuators on the large gear operated steam gate valves because they actually timed a guy trying to close the valve and it was over 3...

    Deaerator Tank Inquiry

If you keep your vents open to the tank the pressure should not go below 0 when the water in the tank cools down.

    Trim 12 for steam service

For steam application we always use trim 8, the 410 stainless is a bit harder than the 316 so you get less erosion.

Flow meter in feed water pump by pass

Not enough information to get you a proper answer. I guess you will have to be concerned with two phase flow after the ARC valve so you may have to install the flow meter before the valve, if you have room. You can always install one upstream of the pump, it may be easier.

    Steam Boiler Steam Line Velocity

The outlet header on the boiler may have been sized so that the same boiler can be used on lower pressure steam, this way they can have one standard for all rated operating pressures. Other than cost, there is no real problem with an oversized flange on the boiler outlet.

Proportional valve for water, low pressure

You may need to use a small valve with pneumatic actuator, with a large solenoid on the air line that can open and close the valve VERY quickly

REGULATOR FAIL OPEN CAPACITY PER ASTM F1795

Full Disclosure: I work for the local Fisher Representative. The full open flow coefficient for a specific regulator (used so you can do the flow calculation - either choked or not) is not a calculated number but actually comes from empirical data from the flow lab at Fisher. So you will find...

    Deaerator level control

The deaerator should be sized for your maximum load, so that the temperature in the storage part of the DA should not change with a higher flow rate and the shrinking of the water level should not be caused by colder water. You have not outlined your control method for the level so that it is...

    Control valve vs silencer

The noise is created in the valve due to the pressure drop. By using a second control valve, each valve will take 1/2 the drop and the noise created will be less. Will it be low enough for your code/application? - I could not tell you. However, if you do put in that second valve it will...

Booster pump on City water line

You size the pump on the lowest water pressure available. You put a pressure control (or VFD) on the outlet of the pump so that it does not get over pressure. We use many booster pumps here in NYC for taller buildings, taking city water on the suction and discharge at a fixed pressure. If you...

    Steam Traps

Modulating and Constant flow should be the same thing when considering steam traps. Certain types of traps will work as on/off (disc or often called thermodynamic traps), or modulating (float & thermostatic). Bucket type traps can work both on/off and modulating depending on the flow coming...

Problems with Metal Seated Gate Valves on Steam Application

We supply steam PRV equipment and although the gate valves are the least expensive alternative they are used extensively. We have had more success for critical applications using metal seated high performance butterfly valves and soft seated ball valves (with the correct seats for...

Flash tank - how it works

By the wording of your post it seems you do not have a deaerator but just an atmospheric boiler feed tank, so you are correct in that you cannot use the steam from the flash tank in the De-A. If you have use for low pressure steam local to the flash tank, then you can pipe the vent from the...

    Fisher Regulator Sizing

Regulators are different than control valves when it comes to sizing. All regulators must have some 'droop' or offset flow, which is an offset to your setpoint. Most regulators are sized for a 10% droop, some for 20% and it depends on what your system can handle. The wide open Cv or Cg is used...
