How good is ground penetrating radar? Can it detect reinforcing size?
Typical situation, CIP building with no drawings of information on reinforcing.
Is x-ray the better way to go to find reinforcing sizes?
I appreciate the information. This is a CM project. The wall is 150' long, 14' high, and 18" thick.
I'd like to hear about any issues to be concerned with using an accelerator.
The goal here is to be able to back fill sooner than 28 days.
I know strength will likely be achieved in 5-10 days...
I am aware of the chloride based accelerators and the effect on reinforcing.
I can't recall ever using an accelerator in a cast wall situation.
good idea? bad idea? what should I look out for?
What do I need to be aware of if accelerator is used for a concrete wall? Accelerator is being considered to be able to backfill sooner. It is an 18" thick, 14' tall foundation wall. It will be supporting first floor framing and have some columns bearing on it.
Thanks all for the information.
I have now seen all the devices.
The majority of them are steel tube spreader beams.
There are a few yoke plates.
There are some welded up bolt on lifting devices.
The heaviest load is less than 2 tons.
I am looking for a resource for design of spreader beams.
These lifting devices were made in the shop of our client.
No drawings exist of the devices [same old story, been used for years].
Some of these lend themselves to be able to calc a safe load rating.
Others do not [odd plate shapes, unknown weld sizes, etc.]
Good day, is there a specification or design guide for designing below hook lifting devices?
A client has several in house made lifting devices that they would like to get a load rating on.
Our thoughts are to do calc's if possible and apply appropriate safety factors.
So I am trying to find any...
Hilti rep referenced some testing done in the 80's [no link provided] with abandoned holes and wedge anchors.
The response did not address my specific situation with an abandoned cast in anchor.
I am waiting on additional information.
If anchor rods are mis-placed by inches, can post installed anchors be installed adjacent to the cut off anchors?
My thought is that the cut off anchors would be like a piece of rebar in the footing.
I should say that there is tension on the new post installed anchors.
The cut off anchors would...
The anchor rods for a PEMB project were placed in one of the following ways:
1. Concrete for the pad footing was placed, the anchor rods were pushed into the concrete, the concrete was consolidated.
2. Concrete for the pad footing was placed, the concrete was consolidated, the anchor rods were...
Thanks all.
Wind gusts and tornado winds are different animals and this was explained to the client.
They asked for a study after hearing our explanation.
Do the FEMA documents use the Fujita scale for the wind speeds?
This is strictly a study at this time. The missiles and internal pressures...
A client is asking us to evaluate the differences in structure due to the wind loads from typical risk category IV wind speeds [120 mph] and an F2 tornado highest value wind speed [157 mph].
I explained that these are two different things (3 second gust and a possibly longer sustained wind...
