SnTMan, Thank you.
I rechecked with our process team and actual bolting temperature have a very slim chance to beyond 371 deg C and they wanted us to cover 390 deg C design to bolt also. So it is needed to explore stretching the design temperature limit of IID if code case or exemption that may...
For SA-540 B23 Cl.3 (2Ni–3/4Cr–1/4Mo) Bolt material, is it possible to use at design temperature of 390 deg C ?
For above material, maximum temperature limit is 371 deg C as per ASME Section II (Equipment designed per ASME Section VIII Div.1).
Equipment operating temperature 340 deg C and...
@r6155,Now noticed table UW-12 noted in my last answer however missed the reference of UW-12 JOINT EFFICIENCIES (d) relating to seamless.
UW-12 JOINT EFFICIENCIES (d) states that E = 1.0 when the spot radiography requirements of UW-11(a)(5)(-b).
Its this same information I wanted to convey in...
@Mash18, seems you misunderstood.
a) E=1 is used(not 0.75). See the calculation step
Once you see references UG-116, UW-11 (1)(5)(-b) and Table UW-12 then you would understand the reason of E=1.
b) 0.875 multiplied to thickness (0.75")is because of UG-16 (d) pipe under tolerance of SA-106-B
As Section VIII Div.1 Appendix 43-1 (a), revisions become mandatory 6 months after the date of issuance.
Refer the statement to your client Latest (2019) if rules of ASME Sec. VIII Div.1 to be applied.
Even for exemption allowed in appendix 43-1 (b), I don't see a waiver for your...
@MJCronin,
The information on the linked threads is useful.Thank you.
I am contacting my vendor for the stainless steel bolt <<ASTM A 193 Grade B8>> for high temp
Thank you,
@XL83NL
Thanks for informing A-325 is replaced by ASTM F3125. SA is not mandatory for support bolts, so I would just go with ASTM grade.
Regarding your reply, I know the equipment design temp. But it was difficult to exactly determine the actual temperature at lug. So I was asked by...
@aadya,
From your query, I presume you added insulation to your nozzle cylinder OD which cause interfere. (sum of the ins. Radii means insulation radius of nozzle A and nozzle B ?)
please check if your nozzle was added insulation, and if insulation is necessary, consider to avoid the overlap of...
As previous project experience, I have used "SA-307-B or SA-325 bolts" for supporting the equipment lug on the structure.
Now I have a high temperature heat exchanger with design 565 deg C (operating 530 deg C).
In such high temperature lug, Is SA-307-B is still acceptable or should I need...
Is U2 stamp is necessary for all equipments fabricated per ASME sec. VIII Div.2?
I have come across non stamped ASME sec.VIII Div.1 equipment in some of previous projects located in east asia.
However for my curiosity to know,
if client agree is it possible to design non stamp ASME sec.VIII...
We have a ASME Sec.VIII Div.1 pressure column to be Re-rated to 101 barg from current 100 barg.
Existing item earlier shop hydrotested at 130 barg considering design pressure=MAWP
(1.3 x Design pressure X LSR) as per UG-99 during as-built year 2008 .
As per latest rerate design calculation...
We are purchasing a ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1 Washing drum for AXEN's CCR unit. Material is CS + 4 mm thick FRP lining for the corrosion protection and to avoid the direct fluid contact with the metal surface. Drum Internals are FRP /Poly Propylene material.
Design : 5.6 barg @ 80 deg C...
Thanks fedefer85, for raising this topic. Me too Looking forward for the replies as I run in the similar case. Rerated for increased design pressure as per measured thickness (but no physical modification)
By the way, is your equipment is code stamped ?
I understand "validate" means you are about to rerate the exchanger. Of course ASME Sec VIII (allowable stresses from ASME Sec. II) Edition 1971 and 1983 should have the allowable stress of same because the factor of safety(FOS=4) remain same over these period. And since the subjected exchanger...
