    Tangent Modulus

Hey Guys, Let me know if I've got this correct. When performing and FEA I can do a non-linear analysis to determine the stress after passing the elastic limit of the material. This should tell me if the material will catastrophically fail. I've read the tangent modulus is simply the slope of the...

    Plating & hydrogen embrittlement

Cory, I could select another. The only requirement at this time is it be compatible with ammonia and other refrigerants, and it is plated for corrosion resistance. Easier, simpler, and cheaper always works for me. Is there a specific type or name I can research? Thanks

    Plating & hydrogen embrittlement

What do you all think? I need to have a spring made of A228 music wire plated. We've used zinc-chromate before in the refrigeration industry with good success. I'm thinking I should specify a baking operation to reduce the chance of hydrogen embrittlement, what do you guys think? Thanks

Dis-similar piping materials / galvanic corrosion

Operating temperatures can be anywhere between -45C & 30C. The fluid is ammonia. Gents - thanks for the input and links, they have been most helpful.

Dis-similar piping materials / galvanic corrosion

The environment could be a roof top in south Florida. This is piping for a refrigeration system. The fluid is not corrosive, but this section of the pipe may not be insulated and would be subject to condensation and the elements.

Dis-similar piping materials / galvanic corrosion

Does anyone have a any experience welding stainless steel piping components to carbon steel pipe in outside industrial applications? I've read that galvanic corrosion can be an issue. Does anyone have any experience with this, and is there a way to stop it?

    PED Material Certs

During a recent audit our Notified Body told us that in order for a material manufacturer to be qualified to issue a 3.1b cert for pressure bearing materials he must also hold a PED certificate number besides being ISO certified by a EU recognized registar. Has anyone else run into this...
