I'm threading an aluminum tube with a M60x2 thread. I want to use a steel retaining nut but I'm wondering how much thread engagement I need to keep my 14,000 lb load from shearing the threads clean off on the aluminum tube. The typical 1-1.5 diameter rule or 5 threads doesn't seem to apply here...
