Thankyou to both of you. Will have alook at those text books. Also, for clays, I always thought it was 2 x Su but couldn't actually find it mentioned in any of my books. Perhaps because it is just a rule of thumb. Anyway Much appreciated
I realise that allowable bearing capacity is a function of strenght and settlement characteristics. However, based on solely yhr estrenght, what is the general rules or correlations for allowable bearing capacity to field tests or lab tests (eg, SPT, Unconfined compressive strength tests).

Thankyou for these responses. very helpfull for someone being out of the geotechnical testing field for 10 years.
I have requyested atterberg tests and moisture contents and the consistency was assessed using pocket penotrometer and dynamic cone penetrometer to 5 m. Below the controlled fill...
Can anyone assist me with information of the settlement of engineered fill. the fill is a minimum of 4 m thick and has been well compacted throughout to become stiff to very stiff in consistency.

Hi, have you had any luck. I was looking for the same information. I believe the german standard DIN 4150 has this information but before i purchase it was hoping someone familiar with it could confirm its content.
