but a TQFP socket would be more expensive than the UART IC itself and it takes nerly as much space as an PLCC socket. We finaly have decided to use a Dual UART in 44Pin PLCC. The socket is cheaper, has nearly the same dimensions and is easier to handle in...
I'm redesigning a pcb and I've got not enough space for a big device. I know there are some devices available in qfp-packages, but the UART is only optional and should be removeable therefore a socket is needed...
