What force do you need from the press? Are you able to modify it? The way the cylinder is attached looks odd. Could you mount it to the bottom of the channels so that the load isn't being transferred through the bolts? Can you weld the horizontal channels to the vertical legs?
Tmax = σmax Ip / R
Tmax = maximum twisting moment (Nmm, in lb)
σmax = maximum shear stress (MPa, psi)
R = radius of shaft (mm, in)
Ip = "polar moment of inertia" of cross section (mm4, in4)
Also, you said that it is to torsional loads, plural. If fatigue is a consideration, the actual...
The room temp raises by 0, 5, or 10F, then stays there. At that point your heater is pumping 5200 BTU/hr into the room and the temp is not changing. Therefore, you are losing all of the 5200 BTU/hr at that point.
Thanks for the helpful replies. We wound up installing a 1/2" bolt. Maybe I should have given more detail in the question. This was a 1970's vintage dwg, and the actual bolt was missing from the structural member. It was inaccessible at the time so I couldn't get a measurement of the hole...
I have a drawing that calls for a 3/8" x 1-1/2" lg hex head bolt w/nut. The associated materials drawing states that "Structural field connections are to be 'Friction Type' and are to be made with high strength bolts (ASTM-A325). ASTM-A325 does not cover smaller than 1/2". Would A354 be an...
Not sure about "stealing", but if you know the details bid you have to beat and can make your bid more attractive to the client it is definitely "cheating".
I encountered the same thing in my first job after college. My business card said "Designer". It was a salary grade/HR thing. After my first review I was bumped up a grade and allowed to be called "Machine Design Engineer". So, a designer is basically whatever your corporate structure...
