    Transformer Excitation Test.

Good Day to you guys! We have a situation in one of our project : Relocation of a 30MVA 69kV/13.8kV Power Transformer, The utility company is requiring us to have an excitation test on the Transformer. Is it still necessary to conduct the excitation test? If yes, why? FYI, We have already...

Rated Duty Cycle of 15kV Vacuum Circuit Breakers

Guys can you help me with this? We have a plant expansion and we encountered this Rated Duty Cycle (sequence of operation) difference between the existing and the new 15kV Vacuum Circuit Breakers that we are using as follows: a.) O-0.3s-CO-15s-CO b.) O-0.3s-CO-3min-CO c.) O-3min-CO-3min-CO...

IP54 Vs. Nema 4X, Which protection is superior?

Hi guys,:) I'm a bit confused to which is superior in protection (degree) Nema 4X or IP54. I have an RFQ to one of pioneering manufacturer of RMU's and I specified therein a Nema4X enclosure (actually that is the strict specifications of the end-user), but the manufacturer insists on doing an...

Motor Voltage drops from 11kV to 8.66kV During start-up

electricpete/guys, While i'm still gathering information on where it came from and the nameplate, there is one more thing i'll ask. Is the acceleration time(38 seconds to reach the rated speed) harmful to the motor and other equipment based on the given instances?

Motor Voltage drops from 11kV to 8.66kV During start-up

electricpete/Guys We finally got our motor to run... We change tap from 11kv to make it 11.6kV during starting and we also installed a 500kVar capacitor. However it took us 38s to reach the rated speed (I starting = 256% Ifl) and the voltage drop on the motor terminal is 14.5% ...considering...

Motor Voltage drops from 11kV to 8.66kV During start-up

Thanks a lot guys. Here is the development, During start-up the voltage drop decreases from 8.66kV to 10kV with load (coupled), but this time the problem is the motor never reaches full speed. Can you again help me with this, guys. Thanks

Motor Voltage drops from 11kV to 8.66kV During start-up

We have a 2.2MW, 11kV, 60Hz Motor for a Compressor. During start-up at no load (uncoupled)the starting current is 251A then the voltage drops from 11kV to 8.66kV. What is the effect of the voltage drop to the motor? What are the possible solutions or your recommendations if these will affect the...

Cable size for Motors 1km away from controller

Mike, The motor will be installed on a jetty 1000 meters away from the shoreline (location of the controller). The problem is, it was already purchased. If the wye-delta starter is not possible, then we have to provide a power generating set near the motor. Thanks a lot.

Cable size for Motors 1km away from controller

I will install a 100HP 3Phase 60Hz 440V Induction Type motor 1 kilometer away from the Motor Control Center (Using Wye Delta starter). I'm planning to use 6 sets of 3x200mm sq Copper Wire. Is it sufficient, under or over design? Need your suggestions. Thanks bold = bold italics = italics...

    XLPE Cable Ampacity

    1) I just want to know if an XLPE cable on a ladder type cable tray inside a plant can be considered installed in "free air"? 2) Is there any difference in ampacity of a 250 mm sq XLPE Cable rated at 15kV when installed in 4160V system (consider indoor application)? Thank you guys in advance.

    Seconday Protection

We have installed 10MVA Transformer 4160V (Primary) and 34500V (Secondary). The The Transformer Primary supply (4160V) came from a 10MW Power Plant (Independent Power Producer). Is there any standards requiring us to install Secondary (34.5kV) Potection considering that all the loads to be...
