Hello Johnny Pellin
Some suggestions
1)check the depth of the recess in the impeller that meets the shaft shoulder,if the recess is not deep enough, torquing the locknut would not give adequate compression on the O rings/sleeve/rotary seal to achieve the required friction to prevent spinning...
Thanks very much for the information.Basically what you guys are saying is their pumps are reliable, we would have to be concerned with back up service.
Again thanks to everyone for commenting.
Mike Halloran :The component that I am referring to (Disaster bushing) is also referred to as the throttle bushing. No we didn't figure out what went wrong in the first place, these two failures took place within seconds in one instance, and about a...
Thanks Mike ! for the quick response, but could you elaborate some more!
Concentricity and perpendicularity checks was carrried out during the overhaul and was found to be 0.003 thou.
Hello everyone
We have a between bearings Union centrifugal pump in a high temperature (700deg F) high viscosity service. After shop overhaul the disaster bushing failed during startup. The bushing was fused against the seal sleeve. This disaster bush is made of bronze and has a diametral...
Hello guys!
Thanks for all the invaluable information. This is a follow up question, we have verified the thrust bearing on this pump is skf 7409 BCBM and discolouring oil, the OEM says it should be skf 7409 BG, we have now changed to this and the discolouring has stopped. Our research says that...
Thanks guys!
How will we know that we have assembled the bearing correctly? is there a procedure? I have never seen one! if there is, one can you guys supply me with it!
Thanks again guys!
Hello all!
we have here a Byron Jackson two stage, between bearings, boiler feed water pump that discolours the oil upon minutes of being put in service, bearings are skf 7409BG, and the driver is a motor running on a magnetic center.Coupling is a Waldron gear type, the spool piece has axial...
Thanks JJPellin
A test done on one of the pumps running solo revealed a discharge head of 2200 head ft and a flow of 76 gpm
(running below the rated point) The pump is designed to run at discharge press of 2748.0 head ft (899.8 psig) and rated flow of 88 US GPM pumping propane (SG 0.5)...
Thanks guys for the excellent information. We have a similiar problem whereby there are four pumps running in parallel.Even so, designed head and flow cannot be achieved, we have found that the diffuser discharge exit port is 10 thou larger than what it is supposed to be, contractor is telling...
Hi guys!
Can you guys explain to me what in the design of this pump is so unique that allows for the high head and flow developed ? some one mentioned it is all in the discharge diffuser exit port?
Hi Guys!
I have to reduce an impeller diameter. Should I cut both vanes and shroud or only the vanes. My thinking is only the vanes are to be reduced, maintaining impeller to cut water original clearance (Gap B).A strange school of thought has surfaced viz; that reducing the shroud eliminates...
Thanks a lot Electricpete, and what about if its either a single or double seal or shield?
I was thinking that it was the number of points of sealing that determined if it was a single or double.
Hello everyone,
This may seem as too basic a question but nevertheless, I am having a problem in understanding what is the difference if any, between a SEAL as opposed to a SHIELD bearing.
