    Web Meeting Software

TurboVNC is free and will work pretty well showing CAD/openGL images from a remote station.

    Fluent water droplet wall behaviour

I am modelling an air flow down a pipe that is laden with water droplets with a distribution of diameters. I can accurately predict where the water droplets will impinge on the pipe surface as it rounds a tight bend, but I have been unable to get the software to accurately predict the subsequent...

    Learning curve

In my experience it really depends on the user. That you can use another 3D package should be half the battle, so long as you haven't become too ingrained with the particular foibles of any one package. I picked up Catia V5 to a reasonably high degree in about a month (yes I have learned plenty...

    Fluent updates

Am I right in thinking that Fluent (pre ansys) used to state that they aimed roughly for a new release every 6 months? or am I getting confused with someone else?

    Catia over Remote assistance

Turbo VNC works really well with openGL graphics. You need to configure it to poll the screen regularly though. http://www.virtualgl.org/About/TurboVNC

    Bellville Lock Washer

In the past I've used an aluminium housing with a steel threaded adaptor screwed and loctited into the aluminium head, that the filter will screw onto. Never had any issues with unscrewing with thermal expansion, as long as the filter has been torqued up correctly.

    TurboVNC

I have in my mind downloading a version for another OS and running it through hummingbird, anyone got sny suggestions?

interested in starting my own automobile company, need advice

CFD wise I use Fluent, and can highly recommend it. There is also a version that is integrated into Catia, although I haven't tried that. This isn't a cheap package though. I regularly use Catia, Pro/Engineer and NX6. I find Catia the "best" of the 3 but there is little really to choose between...

    TurboVNC

I have used this package several times successfully between two computers both running windows XP-32. It would be very useful to be able to use it between my computer and a colleague in the far east, but he is running XP64 and can't seem to get it to install. Does anyone know if there is a way...

    Geometry puzzles me

I fairly regularly model up filter canisters that are almost identical to this, I usually just use a shell approach.

    Length of hose

Can you measure the curve lengths of the wireframe edges of the part. Obvously this will not give the same result as the central axis, but if you can measure 2 diametrically opposite edges and take an average between then you should get pretty close..... I think.

    acoustic camera

Just out of interest, has anyone ever used one of these? http://www.acoustic-camera.com/ And roughly how much do they cost?

    Error CATIA V5R18 setup

I'm using V18 and it seems to work fine. Perhaps a graphics card problem, of some other hardware issue?

    map meshing

A good way of meshing a sphere is to first split off a cylinder with domed ends by splitting straight through the centre of the sphere with a cylindrical face, the diameter should be between 1/3 and 1/2 that of the sphere. This part can be meshed as described above, then the remaining part can...

    Volumetric Measuring Tool

Place the vehicle on a huge scales, then fill the compartment with a material of known density and re-weigh. The heavier the material the better as any scales large enough to take a campervan is likely to have a poor resolution.
