Integrate heat flux over an area to find total heat transfer

Thank you, Sayuri! Where should I list these commands? In the ANSYS Workbench Mechanical application, I can add commands under Steady-State Thermal, but it says they will only run prior to the SOLVE command.

Integrate heat flux over an area to find total heat transfer

Hi Everyone, I am using ANSYS Mechanical (Workbench) version 13.0. I have a radiation solution that tells me the heat flux over a surface. I need to integrate all of the nodal solutions on that surface in order to determine the total heat transfer passing through it. I have tried...

Radiation problem: Make "Ambient Temp" dependent on current solution

I believe SPCTEMP allows you to specify the "free space ambient temp" near a surface. I don't really have ambient temps though because I'm modeling parts in a vacuum, so the parts themselves have temperatures associated with them, but there is no true ambient (air) temperature

Apply loads/BC's on sketched areas instead of faces/points/edges/bodie

For those who come across this problem here's the solution: The error is caused when you select a line that borders an edge, hence not resulting in a split. Only lines need to be selected, not vertices, and only those lines that result in splits of the face. "Glueing" is not required if you...

Apply loads/BC's on sketched areas instead of faces/points/edges/bodie

Also, how do I "glue" the split faces back together once I'm ready to?

Apply loads/BC's on sketched areas instead of faces/points/edges/bodie

All right, I was able to selected the sketch lines, I simply had to toggle the lines button next to vertices. After selecting my rectangle and clicking generate, a yellow check is produced next to the face split and there is a warning that says "Warning: At least one tool geometry...

Apply loads/BC's on sketched areas instead of faces/points/edges/bodie

OK, I see there is greater flexibility in "splitting" faces. However, once you have a sketch, how do you select it after initiating the split command? Whether "by point and edges" or "by location" the cursor will not snap to the corners or lines of a rectangle I have produced.

Apply loads/BC's on sketched areas instead of faces/points/edges/bodie

How is splitting different from slicing? I have used slicing in the past to cut parts and glue them back together.

Radiation problem: Make "Ambient Temp" dependent on current solution

I am using the Workbench/Mechanical, Steady-State Thermal application. Thanks,

Radiation problem: Make "Ambient Temp" dependent on current solution

Hi guys, I'm trying to solve a surface to surface radiation problem where I have a part with a constant emissivity, and I'm trying to find its temperature once it is at equilibrium with its enclosure. It is assumed perfectly isolated from conduction, and in a vacuum, so radiation is its only...

Apply loads/BC's on sketched areas instead of faces/points/edges/bodie

I'm trying to figure out a way to define a load or boundary condition on an area of a body or face. In Ansys Workbench/Mechanical it seems that you can only select an entire face, but I frequently have to define a load or BC on a select area of a face. Is there a way to do this? As a...

Ansys 12 Modal Analysis - Node Position?

I had this same problem a few months ago. Under Analysis Settings/Analysis Data Management change "Save MAPDL db" to "Yes". Then open the *.db file in ANSYS APDL and list the nodes

    List node results and coordinates

Hi Everyone, I'm still on the same issue of outputting heat flux to an MAPDL file. I need to integrate the heat fluxes over a cross sectional area in order to solve for the total amount of heat entering a system. I don't think there is a way to do this in ANSYS Mechanical, so I assume I...

    List node results and coordinates

    Here's the image, attached http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=a96313e5-3fc7-473a-abb2-79edd12c1a04&file=outres.gif

    List node results and coordinates

I inserted the outres command into both the solution setup and results (see image) but I still receive the same error when trying to read heat flux data from the *.db file.
