My interest would be in configurations where you have 2 X 100% sized pumps.
swapping pumps with their standby spares: Say you have 2 X 100% ANSI pumps that feed a process. To ensure the spare pump is available when needed every month operations shuts down the running pump and starts the idle...
Are there any studies showing how swapping pumps with their standby spares impacts reliability? I realize different pump designs, services, fluids, etc. may require different strategies. In general, its a question of what is the desired benefit, what are the costs and potential risks, and then...
RafaelBosch,
I have see sulfuric acid tanks built of carbon steel that have been in service for 15-20 years. Unfortunately I don't remember the grade of steel!
I believe A36 is not considered a killed carbon steel, whereas A516 Gr70 would be... But this probably has little bearing on sulfuric...
I hope the pump/drive design had safety margin between design and capacity!
My previous employer used to request the vendor provide horsepower required by the seal. Other than that, I'm not aware of a standard requiring guaranteed efficiencies.
You really need a reliable number on the concentration & temperature, that will help decide materials. Sulfuric is more corrosive at lower concentrations as mentioned by others here. Common concentrations I have come across in the US are 98% and 93% .
Depending on your flowrate and pressure...
Thanks for all the comments.
Our steam plant is actually mostly makeup water. We're now going to be recovering condensate from our Alky unit, and so this tank serves as a precautionary measure (in addition to other measures) to avoid process contaminating our steam.
1) Coating suggestions for a soft water tank?
We are planning to install a soft water tank in between our water softener and dearator on our boiler feedwater. It will also have a recovered condensate stream coming to it.
I was suggested to go with a carbon steel tank with an interior coating...
