Safety in Distributed IO - EUROPE

mastayoda, Use the fork Luke. It has been my experience that it is best to drop the control power relay with the safety circuit. If the safety relay drops (e-stop button pressed or a guard switch actuated) a contact wired in series with the control power relay coil should do it. Your discrete...

    High Temp Range PLC's

Dovo, There are enclosure coolers as JLS that circulate internal air only. What consequences will PLC failure result in, Surely not a Runaway Locomotive? What type of I/O are you dealing with? Is there a chance you can move the PLC enclosure outside of the engine compartment into a regulated...

    Just grumbling...

All the above. Pulling the meter is the "Best Practice". If you must work live and a short circuit occurs you may not get zapped but sparks fly so protect your eyes! Always wear safety glasses!

    serial ports

Rich, USB to serial works for me for most applications. It’s an inexpensive solution to the advancement of technology beyond serial ports. PC cards are more expensive but on the rare occasion necessary. Simple Question, Simple Answer, No Flames, No Games Have a Nice Day!

    Serial Comms

Lucky, Try something like these examples. You must trigger for individual sources. First see if you can get data to write to a file your ocx creates. You will have to customize with your own variables in place of "DATA". These may not be functional as is and need to be massaged for your...

    S7 ETHERNET COMMUNICATIONS

Jazz, You can use a Siemens CP5511/CP5512 and Simatic Net PC card (plug and play) to connect via MPI or Profibus at any location on the bus. If the PLC is a soft PLC such as WinLC controller and is installed on a PC670 HMI for example, you can connect via a crossover cable and TCP/IP network...

GD&T - I'm seeking calculations used to find part charactoristics.

JLSeaguli, Anyone, Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of ASME Y14.5. On the ASME website there are two books (Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and (Y14.5.1M Mathematical Definition of Dimensioning and Tolerancing). I assume that Y14.5.1M is what I need. I am tying...

The following charactoristics are used to desribe tolerances of parts for machining and manufacturing purposes. Flatness of a surface Angularity of a plane Position or true position of a point Profile of a surface There are standard calculations for each of these attributes. Does anyone have...
