SDC D Precast diaphragm without topping slab

@bones206 This is a CBC 2019 project SDC D @lexpatrie That is not how I read it. the comment says that the chapter 14 provisions do not apply to D, E & F and refer you to chapter 18. Chapter 18 says composite and non-composite topping diaphragms only.

SDC D Precast diaphragm without topping slab

Thanks for the info. Since it is covered by an ESR it must use a proprietary connector. I tried to find the ESR-3010 but as you indicated, it is not available. Does that mean that is no longer available? Do you have any idea as to what the connection is and who makes it? This is still...

SDC D Precast diaphragm without topping slab

I have an EOR that is calling for a precast roof in an SDC D structure to be built with prestressed slabs and no topping. The inside dimensions of the building are 114' x 30' with no interior walls. That gives a span to depth ratio of 3.8:1. The documents show schematic shear plate joint...

Small Parallelogram Parking Structure Feasible in Precast?

Many times, a CIP option will cost less in actual construction cost but where it shines is in the macro cost. The Precast option saves months of time in the overall project and if the structure is completed earlier, it starts making the client his return on investment sooner. This project...

Small Parallelogram Parking Structure Feasible in Precast?

Parallelogram shaped DT's can be cast but would require custom end separators which are typically made form steel and would drive the cost up given the small quantity to amortize the cost over. The corner columns would require some thought and custom forming but they are typically not...

    Headed anchor studs in Profis

For years I have used Profis to design steel embed plates with headed anchor studs but in the most recent update I cannot find this option. Did they drop this function or am I just going blind? I typically like to use the same software to design both my post installed and cast in place anchors...

Did Hilti Make a Mistake? Or Do I Not Understand Shear Friction

My understanding is that the Profis software is not doing a shear friction calc. The shear is based on dowel bearing so it is appropriate for the shear to be all in the compression side. That is how they analyze the post-installed and headed anchors.

R for non-building structure with SRCMF construction

The structure in question certainly meets the requirements for a non-building structure. it is only entered for occasional maintenance and / or replacement of equipment. It does not even have a stairway or permanent ladder going to the podium floor.

R for non-building structure with SRCMF construction

Structure is in SDC - 3. I am working on the conceptual design of a structure to house some industrial mechanical equipment. The structure consists single elevated level of a Special Ranforced Concrete Moment Frame podium which will support a large mass of mechanical equipment and its...

    Liability / Re-use Fee for Factory-Built Housing

Let me tell you about a small project I needed to review in my second year out of college. It was a small aluminum greenhouse type building designed as a lean-to addition to your home. A restaurant that I was doing a remodel on was planning to use one as an indoor/outdoor seating area. The...

Statute of Repose and tail polocy after closing company

That is not a great way to enter into retirement with an anvil hanging over your head. My E&O is 2m/2m and the only option they are currently providing is basically way Aesur suggested. Stop working and pay full E&O for 5 years then get a 5-year tail policy. It seems that they do not even...

    Precast Panel Repair

You say precast panels but that looks like it might be some type of concrete veneer that is attached to the underlying structure. If that is the case, it is likely that the veneer can be removed and replace after fixing the underlying structural problem which caused the cracking. Given the...

    CMU beam bearings fracturing

In order for the bearing failures to be thermally induced, the walls at both bearings would need to be restrained for lateral displacement independent of the roof joists attached to the bearings. If this is a single bay building with two bearing walls that support a roof joist, between them...

    Rotten cantilevered balcony beam tails.

Thanks to all who have commented. This is a long post but trying to respond to all comments at one go. Also know that at this point, I am working on a Letter of Findings to the building owner outlining recommendations and repairs based on my non-destructive investigation. None of this is...
