How does the Tension Compression couple develop?
I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it.
I was thinking that each flange was in both tension and compression.... but i thought the flanges were taking shear weak axis?
Thanks
The method i used may be way to conservitive, but its at least a number i can calc, so i feel as a minimum i can live with it.
I used the formula for maximum bond stress in Aci 408, which came from Aci 318-63.
Then set that equal to the average bond stress at failure equation by Orangun...
Thanks Everyone.
Yes it is PVC.
I think the key to calculating it is the development length. The requirement for development length is to assure bond.
I am looking through ACI 408, i think i may find something in there...
Thanks Gentleman.
I am familiar with the ACI 318 Section 6 requirements.
But i feel that applies conduit to conduit, not conduit to rebar.
The reason i am making the distinction is, what if we were talking about a 12" x 24" deep concrete beam, and we blocked out a large section in center...
My contractor has placed 4" electrical conduit running in my grade beams in the same directions as span for a decent length at 2 locations.
At 1 location it is about 2" above the bottom steel. At the other it actually rests on the bottom steel. I am having them move the pipe higher up in the...
Contractor is requesting Horizontal cold joint in monolithic concrete beams at the locations where the slab and beams intersect.
The joint is below the compression block, and i cant come up with another good reason to not let them.
But my gut feeling is I dont like it.
Some inuput and...
For interior Slab on Grade, you can run into issues with finishes if the w/c ratio is high, adhesives wont bond well and it can take longer to get the humidity out of building if the envelope is closed. Thats all dependent on when the slab is poured obviously.
Other then that the typical...
Thanks everyone.
I have the Aluminum Design Manual, but not the primer on diaphragm design by the MCA.
Does any one have this and can check if its worth the money. The only reason i would buy it is for the diaphragm and shear wall design in aluminum.
I also have "ALUMINUM STRUCTURES A Guide...
Thanks guys, that is what i expected, but was hoping for some link to some data.
I typically design commercial structures and recently was offered to step on for an ailing elderly engineer who designs sheds and such.
These contractors are flipping out because i am changing "the way we have...
I am having a hard time finding on design values for aluminum decking as a diaphragm and/or a shear wall material.
I recently started designing Storage Sheds and the typical industry roof deck and siding is aluminum. I am looking for some design values for shear strength as a diaphragm and...
What is the governing codes and any design guides in Florida, for wood or metal round poles in soil?
I am looking for more info on the cantilevering capacity of the poles for overturning in soil.
I have a found few very old methods in some old books around the office, one being from ab old...
Greg,
Didn't mean to to offend you. The show I mentioned, was the night before and it was still resonating with me.
And when I said "foreign engineers" I was inferring to those from countries with much lower GDP then USA, and thus would take a very low salary comparatively to there...
