hmmmm,
It seems I need the double quotes in my text, as soon as I added them it evaluated......

Thanks for the replies.
I am using a custom property, and in this case I cannot use a design table. The double quotes are not part of my property, I just showed them here to separate the property.
Here's a link to my properties, you'll notice the formula is not being evaluated...
hi gwubs,
You're right it is easy, so easy in fact, I already did that.
The problem is the BOM is not showing the 'number' value, it's showing "D1@Boss-Extrude1@part1.Part" in my bom.

I have a SW part file with the following property "D1@Boss-Extrude1@part1.Part", which references the parts extrude length.
I want to show this value on my drawing's bom, but when I add it, it lists the name and not the value.
Can I make it evaluate the value, or somehow get it to show the...
Hi BOPman
The custom app we are creating talks directly with the Inventor API, so no menus or pull downs are used.

Hi all,
I am doing some digging for one of our developers who is creating a 3rd party app for Inventor.
He needs some way to link a property to a measurement on a part. I know that Inventor is capable of this because we have seen it demonstrated thru Inventor itself. I guess the question is...
I am trying to export an Inventor 11 BOM to either a .xls or .mdb file type and get the following error;
---------------------------
Autodesk Inventor 11
---------------------------
Couldn't create database--Exception:
Unable to append data to file.

OK...
thanks for all the help guys!!!
SolidAir, thanks for your efforts, it should help with what I need :D
and thanks for the refrain on all my comments ;)

When ballooning an assembly, it seems SW balloons them in the order they were inserted into the assembly, starting from 1.
Is this info stored anywhere? How does it know what was inserted first?
It probably just goes down the feature tree, and assigns an incremental value for each unique...
Hey fcsuper,
you're right, I can (and will) add these properties to my templates, but that doesn't help the 1000s of parts and assemblies I already have in the vault that need the property added with the values.

Thanks Jon!
Seems I'm almost there..... almost. Your method will add a property to a SW file, but it doesn't seem to actually assign a value to the property.
Without getting into my specific details, I want to add a property called "type" with a value of "1" for assemblies, and "2" for parts...
Hey folks,
I would like to update (and add) some custom properties for all my files in the vault, by means of the Task Scheduler. The snag I see is, what directory do I specify for the Task Scheduler? Do I select the directory where the valut resides (even though the contents don't have the...
thanks for the help guys, that should give me a few thoughts to play with.
as for why I don't wanna use propagator.... not sure really, just some of the guys I work with used it in the past and weren't too happy with it.

hey boottmills,
I'm giving the task scheduler a spin now, but what about this scenario.
I have a property named "part number", an example value is "123-7654". I want to change the "123" to "456" but keep the rest, so the new value is "456-7654"
it seems task scheduler will not allow these...
hmmm, thanks mkysoft,
perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I dind't mean the mass, and in the weight of something, but doing a bunch of files all at once.
I guess the correct term is "en masse", but I couldn't figure out how to edit my post :)
