This one has a lot of factors to take into account and there isn't a simple one line answer. Separators are designed to meet certain specs e.g. BS&W and vapour pressure of the oil product, oil content of the water product and liquids content of the gas.
For BS&W, higher temperatures do assist...
Does anybody know of a reference for the maximum velocity limit of raw seawater in 6 Mo SS to ANSI B36.19? The material is ASTM A312 UNS S31254.
All the generalised SS specs seem to recommend 7 m/s but this seems to be more for pipe stressing than corrosion/erosion.
Don't forget that there will be several different settle out pressure depending on how the compressor was operating just before it shut down.
Normal settle out pressure will be much lower than if the compressor discharge was blocked and the relief valve lifting. If the discharge was blocked...
