    Outside Air Intake Snow Melting

Our company has been working on a few projects that experience snow accumulation in outside air intakes due to higher winds and very cold climates. This has even occurred with design velocities 400 FPM or less. We are considering trying to install an electric element of some sort into the air...

can bathroom exhaust be interchanged with each other

Many of the typical ceiling exhaust fans come standard with BBD. I have connected multiple, but also had a common fan at the roof that always maintained a negative pressure in the ductwork, similar to how multiple dryer exhaust systems are combined by exhausto/kanalflakt systems. Paul G.

Heated Make Up Air Fan required for Hood Exhaust?

This is a good resource for kitchen exhaust/make-up design considerations by Reznor: https://www.rezspec.com/cms_download.php?mod_files%5Bfileid%5D=000000000589 Greenheck has one as well: http://gfcportal.com/products/kitchen/application_guide.php To answer your questions: 1. I suggest you...

Retrofitting Demand Control Volume (CO2 Based) to office Building

ChasBean1: Can you expand a bit on how airflow is controlled via VFD speed? What is purchased to measure air volume (AFMS?) within the equipment and is this calibrated with the respective equipment fan curves? What about for OA when it is mixed within a mixing box with return air; and there is...

What is the best HVAC load software?

I use carrier Haps; I like it but it is the only software I have tried. I know other engineers who like Trane trace.

Retrofitting Demand Control Volume (CO2 Based) to office Building

The office buildings I have experience on for the most part had direct make-up for larger exhaust souces (hoods); however it was only 75-80% of the exhaust rate; the remaining air was from the house system.

Retrofitting Demand Control Volume (CO2 Based) to office Building

Excellent post by ChasBean1; the only thing I would add is to be sure you understand the "total building exhaust". You need to be aware if the building has exhaust system that operate intermittently; such as fans in a cafeteria, if the building has a gym, day care, etc, or if any tenants have...

Cooling load - Rule of thumb

Don't forget to consider the exterior envelope as well; the glass and wall performance will have a large impact on the tonnage as well. In Asia, they could be building things much differently than we do here. Paul G.

    Bathroom Exhaust Duct Material

psulee, Let me know how it works out. I don't have the codes in front of me; but if I recall correctly the IBC is specific on how many floors the duct penetrates (it would be worth reading the commentary). On the project I am involved in, it was determined that since the building is 3 stories...

    Bathroom Exhaust Duct Material

I believe the IMC allows those lower exhaust rates if the fans operate on a continuous basis; in residential applications. What is the building classification of the dorm? If not residential, I believe they code requirement is 75 CFM/water closet; but I am more familiar with MA code, not IMC...

    Geothermal Heat Pump Design

Pretty much what GMcD said has been my experience. I work for am MEP firm in MA; my first geothermal project is in construction as we speak. We worked together on the project and coordinated the "inside the building" design with a recognized geo-exchange design specialist/sub-consultant out of...
