To add to this ancient thread - I have designed many complex industrial machines over 7 years using AutoCAD 10 thru 13 and will have to say it works well for assemblies of 200+ simple, orthogonal parts (such as would be made in a normal machine shop.) Version 13+ has the solids which is useful...
