    ASTM Standards for Euro Steel

I'm working on a large project that will have steel and fabrication from Europe. The local jurisdiction is requiring ASTM standards apply. Is there a ASTM document, or procedure, that lists equivalent material? Is it possible to use Euro steel under IBC regulations?

What type of cast-in-place anchor bolts are considered untorqued bolts?

Paddingtongreen, I'm a believer of that too but do you have any reference to back that up?

What type of cast-in-place anchor bolts are considered untorqued bolts?

Chip, Are you saying then that a snug tight, cast in place anchor bolt is considered un-torqued similar to a nelson stud? ACI appendix D refers to un-torqued cast in place anchors and I wondered if they could be both nelson studs as well as snug fit threaded L bolts.

wood shear walls in corridor only

I too have done these as rigid diaphragms and taken all the load through the corridor walls. I don't like it but what else can you do.

No, this question has to do with cast-in-place, torqued vrs untorqued, only.

What type of cast-in-place anchor bolts are considered untorqued bolts?

In reference to ACI 318-11, section D8.1, spacing for cast-in-place un-torqued bolts, is 4d. If they are torqued cast-in-place bolts, or post installed, they are 6d. My question is whether all cast in place snug-fit bolts, that have a nut/washer top connection, should be defined as torqued...

Townhouse Wind Loading - parallel to front wall

In my experience I would not design the walls for the full exterior wind load since the approved architectural does not include them as stand alone. If they decide to isolate a portion in the future, it would be considered an alteration and would fall under the EIBC (existing building IBC), and...

Tapered, Light Gauge Steel, Angle Columns

I'm analyzing an existing metal shade structure with tapered 14 gauge steel angle columns (8" legs at the top and 3" legs at the bottom). These columns are acting as beam columns being fixed at the top and pinned at the base. This structure was fabricated in Dallas Texas in the 1970's. Does...

    Can Rebar be bent twice?

I have a contractor who bent a #5 bar 90 degrees and now needs to bend it back up. Does the bar undergo some diminished tensile capacity when bending it multiple times?

Elongated holes in steel base plate

A contractor, on one of my current projects, contacted me and informed that a 2" baseplate with 4-1 1/2" anchor bolts has one hole that is elongated and not round as specified. Does anyone know of a repair for such a condition? I wondered if there is a epoxy or molten alloy that could be...

    Eucalyptus Timber Design Value

Thanks everyone for the great response and humor. I laughed too when my client, who had been overseas and spent a night at the Hotel Splendido in Italy, ate dinner under a beutiful trellis made from eucalyptus. He just had to have it at his house too!! Too much money, too much time...

I have a client in the US that wants to build with eucalyptus wood. I can't find anything in the NDS and wondered if anybody had any info or knows some equivalent values.
