Florida builidng code and strapping of ground condensers

Hi Folks, I am working on project in Miami Dade county, analyzed and design pads of condensers. When I was working in Florida, I remember they have strap down the condenser units along with anchoring down. Please can anyone share a typical detail for that? The roof live load in 2007 FBC for...

    Generator pad design

It is not a seismic zone. Thank you everybody. The information provided was useful.

    Generator pad design

What approach should be used for generator pad design? The generator dimension are 16.526' x 8' x 8'. Weight is 36000 lbs. To calculate the depth of pad can I use (Weight of generator/ density of concrete * length of pad * width of pad). The generator is in a enclosed area. So do I have to...

    Concrete Wall Design

Thank you Mike. I really appreciate your time and help. The wall is for sign on starting from ground elevation. They have minor wind load and no axial dead load. It is true to use 0.78*b*d^2 (this is for beam) to determine the maximum moment capacity of wall?

Splice design for a WT section

WT is 12 x 34. Length of truss is 40 ft. Splice is at 14 ft. Elevation of truss is at 30 ft. I have to provide splice at top and bottom chord of truss. So the splice will have to resist axial and shear force.

Splice design for a WT section

Hello, I have not designed splice before. I would really appreciate if somebody can throw some light on splice design, in particular any material I can refer to design it. Thank you.

    Tie column

I want to analysis and design tie column. Height is 20.5 feet. The wind pressure is 80 psf. The column is not braced. The lateral wind load can be mitigate by designing a a column uni-axial bending + axial load. Is this true? Column as CMU walls on two opposite sides and is open to other two...

    Cooling tower analysis and design

My bad, when I said retrofitting, I meant adding CFRP around the beam. Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it!

    Cooling tower analysis and design

Thank you hokie66 and structSU10. I do not know what is kicker assembly. Few questions: 1 - The lateral win pressure will generate shear on the frame? 2 - The overturning moment from chiller should be converted into forces and applied on the frame? I am getting reactions on the frame which...

    Cooling tower analysis and design

I have attached a copy of screen shot. It is resting on the (W) 48" x (H) 20" R.C. beam. The height of the frame is 4'. I want to know how will the wind force transferred to the beam? Thank you!http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=19728682-0107-4d9b-9898-c3026b7eda2a&file=Untitled.png

    Cooling tower analysis and design

Hello everyone, I just graduated with M.S. in Civil Engineering. Can anybody explain or forward links if any regarding analysis and design of cooling tower on roof top? I want to understand how can wind load be mitigated? I am designing a 4' steel frame which will be resting on existing...
