Focht3, The only PI test I know of is graduating from USMC Boot Camp at Paris Island! Tractorguy, It is usual in my area to use AASHTO #57 crushed stone as replacement for undercut footings. But, that is generally for more granular material up to and including decrepitating...

    Developing Technicians

It is a shame that no one has replied in almost a fortnight... In my area there are firms that take any dunderhead off the street teach them 'three lifts, twenty five strokes, 10 to 15 slaps' and you are qualified concrete tech level "A". When they discover that they can get a 25%...

    I'm a mechanical engineer building

More than likely the crazy cracks or alligator cracking are a result of shrinkage at the surface which could be due to any number of causes. bottom line: they NOT an indicator of structural failure! More than likely they are a result of the finishers 'blessing' the slab with excess water.

Flexural Strength for Falsework Removal & Loading

What method was used to break the beams? Single or third point loading? What was the rate of loading? Was this a hydralic concrete compression tester? Was it specifically designed to break beams. Were the calculations done correctly? Were the beams moist cured or were they 'field' cured...

tips for site-plumbing up with laser plumb ups

Try the olde mason's trick. Get the heaviest bob you can find and suspend it so it and about a foot of its string is submerged in water. A 5 gal (20 L) bucket should do just fine! The friction of the water will hold the bob and its line steady in all but the most windy day. The trick is to...

    spalling of concrete cracks

dik is correct. The lack of adheasion in this case could be caused by the surface drying rather than curing. I have also seen the surface scale due to working the bleed water back into the surface but the alligator cracking (indicative of drying and shrinkage) would not appear. the general...

    Inspection of structural masonry

Information on oversanding of the mortar, retempering and breaking the units with a hammer before and after installation (by other trades) would be an eccellent topic for discussion. On site storage should be talked about.
