ArtL, this is a sheetmetal crossmember, as for the pattern issue I don't really need to reflect the exact pattern as supplied, I just need to show it in the drawing views so the assemblers and welders will now which part is diamond plate instead.
CorBlimerLimey, this method won't work in Hidden...
Kindly check the attached JPG file showing an assembly with diffrent parts ... the one highlited in red are the ones to show the pattern.

Hi guys ... Just wondering if there's anyway to show Treadplate or chequered pattern in solidworks drawing view in the hidden line mode?
I find many deatiled drawings for machines and chassis showing these finishes in standard drawings mode but can't find it yet in Solidworks.

Thanks guys for quick reply ... so far the only bad thing about this is the saving time as it takes quite long time to finish.
Rob, I've tried save as and it works very fast but I can't keep changing file name and links to drawing and assembly.
I just started creating a design library parts for our common components using design table feature ... but I noticed a surprising file size increase from the original part vs. the one witht a design table of several comfigurations.
- Original one configuration file size 587kb
- Same file but...
Thank you (CorBlimeyLimey) ... problem solved
so what other mates should be added in the top level of an assembly other than the Limite Mate ... is there some sort of reference for this info.
Thanks for the note ... could you check this linkhttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=be828b75-a2f0-400a-89af-7adc1bb1697c&file=Door_Hinges.zip

I've created an area calculation equation to project on drawings sheet for every sheet metal part ... but the problem is that I can't find a way to control the number of decimals as sometimes the value show 7 digits after 0.
Thanks,
Thank you again guys and specially "EEnd" your (Volume/thickness) solution is brilliant :)
The question now how can I merge the new equation in the new part template so I don't have to create it every time?
