I am trying to find a reference as to what determines if a safety valve is "coded" or not. I understand the design differences, but need to know what determines if a valve requires a UV or VR stamp for repaired valves....

API does not approve or qualify any particular inspection method. Their standards just recommend what is most commonly done in the field.

What is the basis? QW-404.4 States that a change in F# is considered an essential variable. I know that for welder's performance, the F# is not relevant. So how can you change the F# of the weld root and not re-qualify the joint?

Leave California and never look back! When I worked out there as an inspector, i would only bring home 38% of my paycheck. I could not afford company insurance, 401K, and state taxes. I think you will find if you are bringing home more of what you earn, you'll be fine. As far as the economy...
Could anybody please clear this up for me. I have a PQR that was made with a 6010 (F3) root and a 7018 (F4) fill. The WPS was revised to show making the weld with only 7016 (F4). My stance is that this PQR does not support the production 7016 only weld.

I'm sure this has been handled before, but I could not find it in the search results but here goes:
a coupling is welded for a drain nozzle to a fin fan cooler at construction.
during a shut down, the nozzle is cut off at the nozzle side and a new 6" long piece of pipe is then welded to the...
This may not be the right forum, but does anyone have any experience with linear type defects (incomplete fusion or lack of fusion) in the root of welds in weak nitric acid / weak caustic service in 304L material? I know what the Codes say about this. I'm very clear on the requirements. An NCR...
PLEASE HELP!!!! I need a concise reference to determine if a structure which houses 16 rotating contactors would be considered staticlly loaded or cyclicly loaded when appling the visual examination acceptance criteria of D1.1. I have searched this forum with no results found....
Please refresh me someone...is there any code prohibition on welding open root stainless steel when the joint is to be backgouged and the welded from the opposite side?
Umberto,
It would depend on if you are examining welds in pipe or plate. For a weld in pipe, you would need to use one of the curved "blocks" mentioned in FIG. T-434.3. For welds in plate use FIG. T-434.2.1 NON-PIPING CALIBRATION BLOCKS.
Hope this helps...its what I use to do these examinations.
