    Palgmer - Miner equation derivation

@rb1957 - The purpose is a bit longer and complex to explain in the post here. Long story short - I used a more derived method to find the damage in a shaft. When my colleague used the ISO standard referred Palgmer-Miner's method he found a different damage value. I wanted to know where exactly...

    Palgmer - Miner equation derivation

@rb1957 - Thanks for the links. Info. in aerospaceengineering page was interesting. My objective is to know how the equation "Teq^p*sum(ni) = sum(Ti^p*ni) … " is derived.

    Palgmer - Miner equation derivation

Hi Ted, Thanks for giving the information. The piece that I miss in the reference is: "The equivalent stress range concept in Eq. 8.4 is easily derived assuming a constant S–N slope and D = 1" I am curious to see this part.

    Palgmer - Miner equation derivation

Hi Hytools... You are right, I should have named it "equation to find slope of a line" And does sum of n*T^p give the area under the curve? (I am bad at maths... May be this answer will turn to be important)

    Palgmer - Miner equation derivation

Dear all, I am really sorry for not responding to your replies. Unfortunately, I didn't receive any email notifications and hence I assumed nobody replied to my question. @Chicopee - This equation is applicable to any component that undergoes a fatigue load cycle a single gear, a shaft or a...

    Palgmer - Miner equation derivation

Palgmer-Miner equation is used in ISO standard ISO 6336-6. I want to understand how it is derived. It helps to consolidate damage caused by multiple torque, cycle bins. A bin means a torque applied for a given number of cycle. As an outcome of the equation, a single equivalent torque that...

Dual mass flywheel clutch - How does it make a difference?

Thank you very much, Brian. I understand if there was no secondary mass, the dampening of spring would not be efficient at high slip condition of the clutch.

Dual mass flywheel clutch - How does it make a difference?

I was going through these two documents: https://www.schaeffler.com/remoteme...effler_2/symposia_1/downloads_11/4_DMFW_1.pdf http://www.partinfo.co.uk/docs/140 My primary interest was to understand why and how Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) is superior over the conventional Single Mass Flywheel...

Is EN353 cold forgeable as much as SCM420

Hi, We are doing a gear box for a two wheeler (for the first time). Most of our benchmarks are of Suzuki and Honda bikes. All their gears are made of SCM420. Surprising part is these gear teeth are formed by cold forging. No machining at all! Now, I was comparing the chemical composition of...

Stronger alternative for 20MnCr5 is EN353

Thanks, Ed. //You left out that they similar Cr content// True I should have listed down the similarities as well. //When you carburize the 353 you are forming a high C alloy steel, very strong, tough, and deep hardening.// Isn't it the same when I gas carburize 20MnCr5 as well? I just make a...

Stronger alternative for 20MnCr5 is EN353

Hi, I am facing a gear root bending failure in one of our commercial application transmissions. Due to practical reasons, changing any dimension is impossible. The gear is made of 20MnCr5, gas carburized. Couple of seniors are suggesting to go with EN353 instead. Two reasons: 1. EN353 is...

How to measure gear start of tip relief diameter?

Hi, Can we measure the start of tip relief diameter of a gear involute profile? My gear suppliers say the machines can not measure exact tip relief diameter. They have got a Tokyo technical instruments make gear machining machine and a Wenzel gear tester machine. How true it is? What is the...

Protuberance in gears - Why doesn't shaving operation finish?

Thank you both of you. I understand the reason now.

Hybrid design enabled Vs disabled - With geometric set ON in both the conditions

Thanks, Jackk. Just out of curiosity, why does catia have such two options, when there is no functional difference?

Protuberance in gears - Why doesn't shaving operation finish?

Just because shaving doesn't finish the root of a gear, a protuberance is given during hobbing. This, most of the time, leads to an undercut. To avoid this, can shaving operation clear root of the gear as well? Thus, I can avoid protuberance. Another question - Can grinding clear root?
