I see you're still reaching for something that may not be there.
Was at a good trade event last week discussing implementations and what you need to gauge is how much time your engineers spend in PDM vs how much is that CRM component going to be used. For instance during the talk the SAP...
Go take a look at Aras Innovator (solidworks plugin here: http://www.aras.com/integrations/MCAD/solidworks-connector.aspx).
It is a highly scalable, open source package that is free to download and use and you just pay when you need support. Huge community built around the software that is VERY...
Nope, you hit the nail right on the head.
The benefit of using a "layout part" vs just using the layout sketch in an assembly is the performance gain and ability to change your file structure very easily.
If you're on the Solidworks forums take a look at this...
I don't know about directly moving them as manually creating a design table has a couple caveats. But you should be able to at least copy/paste once your table is properly formatted. In the Solidworks help file there is a list of everything you need to create a design table outside of solidworks...
Do you have Enterprise PDM at all? If so then you could map variables that are set by default when you create new parts.
Another option (if no EPDM) is to use linked Design Tables. By having the design tables linked you get a similar option like you do with export/import of equations but you...
Just open your equation editor, select edit all, do a select all (ctrl+a) and delete everything.

I just thought of one more and it's more of a Windows trick but applies to Solidworks as well.
For naming features, parts, assemblies, design table configs, etc where you would normall have a slash, like 3/4, you can use the character called "Fractioni Slash".
To find it open up your Character...
We use Solidworks--just started--and are running into the issue where we want to build our models accurately accounting for strength and weight (ie design dimensions in the weldment tool) but then when a coped beam or web doubler is put in to the "designed" W's and we start manufacturing our...

Using the alt key when dragging a component in assembly to reorder it will prevent it from falling into a subassembly, if you are placing it near that subassembly.

That is awesome! I've missed out on that one for far too long. I...
Another tool you can use is called Revo Uninstaller. It's free and it will do a deep scan of not only your registry but your hard drive as well. You can find it at http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-freeware-version.php

Once SW 2011 is out with the CATIA kernel life should be good(read: multithreaded process). As long as it doesn't turn into vaporware like "backwards compatibility".

@BT,
Thanks for posting the follow up about SPR #:502276. I actually ran into this exact problem yesterday when working with a ~200 body weldment.
VAR told me to use "Relative to Model" views instead. But it's also good to know that this is a bug and not just a fluke occurrence.

What are your toolbox permissions set to, mainly, is it password protected? If not you may not have permissions to set the file properties.
Also, could you post up a screenshot of the error?
