    Profile Tolerances and Datum References

thanks for the feedback all. I know its hard to visualize without a pic. Drawoh, yes, I meant the hole as a feature not just the centerline. We are currently inspecting/nesting per the Datum -C- as is. However, our inspector was using the hole - because that was the origin for all the basics...

    Profile Tolerances and Datum References

This question may be a bit hard to explain but hear goes. We have a flat part with a hole on one side - this side of the part is squared off (a 1" x 3" x .25" plate). On the other end of the part a series of arcs/radii combine to describe a "cam" shape if you will. All of the basics that...

    Oxidized Finish

Its about the size of a lawn chair, but I could break it down into a couple pieces, about half that.

    Oxidized Finish

I have a weldment - mild steel square tubing - that I wish to give an oxidized or "premature" rusted finish to, strictly for aesthetic purposes. Its for an outdoor ornamental product. Can anyone help me with a process - chemical application or like - to achieve this finish? Thanks!

    17-4PH Material

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Seems like we would be better off with an age-hardening of the Cond 'A" material - before machining. We don't want to worry about dimensional changes AFTER a heat treatment. The application is for a disposable surgical device, so I don't know if stress...

    17-4PH Material

So is it uncommon for a finished product, using this grade, not to be solution treated to one on the HXXXX grades? Would it be acceptable to basically change the material spec to say "17-4PH, Condition A" .vs. "17-4PH Heat treated to R/C 34 Min"

    17-4PH Material

Quick question - well, hopefully. We have a part which specifies using 17-4PH, heat treated to 34 R/C Min. Since we buy this material in Cond "A", already above the min hardness requirements, are there any advantages to post (or pre)-machining heat treat? Seems like we machine the Condition A...
