Ok, hi all.
I'm an aerospace engineer (no giggling at the back by you civil enfìgineers please ;-), remember we giggle at you lot in the sme way ! )
I think you'll find this post very interesting (and shocking) as it goes along.
I live in an old house (rented) where the ground floor part of a...
I see Siemens , in their raomanesque quest (they see, they buy they want to conquer (maybe) are rolling out CA programs under a new 'front-end' (if I interpret correctly.
Amongst them is a CFD prog called STAR-CCM+.
My question is simple - where does 'STAR' come from, what does it stand for ...
Going back to the actual enquiry and Ferdo's 'What do you bìneed exactly ?'
Thanks for the insights into CATIA (main) development.
As I mentioned at the beginning I'm not in the business of using CATIA in anger as a draftie.
I'm an analyst and as such as I said I need to VIEW Catia models and...
I think the $1billion headline is a Dassault PR stunt.
A little closer look reveals that's over 30 yeras (in 10 year slices)which suddeny doesn't sound so dramatic !
Of course also they probably halff o half of that or more at the present time too, which dilutes the wow factor even more.
Still...
... I can see where you're coming from iscariot (were you the bloke Bob Dylan was mistaken for in '64 btw ? :-) ) !
Often software vendors are nothing but ... salesmen , without a care for what the user actually needs.
For example, I still bemoan the demise of MSc/XL when MSC bought out Patran...
It’s like a nightmare …. isn’t it ?
I’m just coming back after a 6 year break, to needing to view Catia models.
Previously I used 3DVIA Composer, an already bloated version of the great original SEEMAGE programme, now THAT was an example of productivity at it’s best.
I now delve into the...
First, thanks everyone for all the suggestions so far.
Doug (IDS) thanks for the link - nice blog - nice to see appreciation of good musìc alongside engineering excel-ence :-). As you seem to like Bach you might appreciate this :-)

I appreciate the...
I need to plot lots (100's) of X-Y plots in an automated way to browwse and check 'off-line'.
Excel is fine and dandy for individual plots or small quantities in a spreadsheet but what are the best options I have for bulk plot generation ?
Integration in Fortran programs I have would be...
Get hold of a copy of R.D. Blevins "Formulas for Natural Frequency and Modeshapes" and you'll find formulas therein for 'grilled' plates equivalent stiffnesses to be used in the formulas for flat plates presented therein.
Quick Plot produces nice smoothy curves to impress the project manager in the quickest time possible and make him think you're on schedule ! :O)
As has been said above,Quick plot is s quick because defaults are used. You should see quickly if there are clear discontinuities in the results field...
Hi Bob, just seen this.
Don't know if you managed to find a suitable comprehensìve reference (cos there isn't one ;-)) but as a starting point,
Try checking out this thread, usefìul as an opening gambit if you've never done this before:-

Note...
What aerospace norms()or references do people use/recommend for detailed stressing of bolted joints ?
Which are the most used in aerospace circles?
Thank you
Mr. F.
I've seen a lot of Airbus job adverts recently which require something called ISAMI experience.
After a quick search I have found very little detail about it.
Am I right in thinking it's just a 'front-end' for a load of airbus internal programs, or is there something more clever about it ?
I'm...
mmm .... strictly correct young sir, I am of course referring to R.D. Blevins ....... Formulas for Natural Frequency and Modeshape, quoted in my source reference as 1984 edition although I believe there was a first edition in 1979 and maybe a newer one since then
I suppose there would not be...
