Whenever I analyze stress results that are high in transition areas the first thing I check is the aspect ratio of those elements. Keeping in mind that the aspect ratio of a perfect element is = 1.0, a good upper limit to use would be 5.0 for structural analyses to ensure good elements are...
Could you apply a microscopic chamfer on all of the edges of the surface the cyclic symmetry constraint is applied to? When you apply cyclic symmetry, only select the face and not the chamfers. This should help prevent the nodes from closing in on themselves.
Instead of applying a load opposite the fixed end, you could use advanced fixtures by selecting the direction the pipe will deflect and enter the deflection value in the translations box.
Hello Corus and Kellnerp,
I will work on dividing the part up into 1/3's or 1/4's and apply cyclic symmetry conditions to the analysis over the weekend, but I wonder how this will apply when there are unsymmetrical loadings such as dowel pins in housings, etc.
Corus, I applied a global...
kellnerp,
Sorry for the delay to your request but have been very busy here at work.
The attached vector plot of the first principal stress shows the same story of 3 points of high stress around the diameter...
Hi Salmon2 and Corus,
Maybe it would be better if I restate my original question.
I have run a shrink fit analysis of a shaft in a hub with 0.0044" interference. The results of the analysis are attached.
My question is in the interpretation of the results. In the radial stress plot I get...
Hi all,
Does anyone know if the s-n curves for materials are missing in Solidworks 2011?
I know in the previous versions, the s-n curves were in a tab in the material dialog box, but I can not seem to find them in 2011.
Thanks.
Hi all,
I have ran a shrink fit analysis of a shaft in a hub with 0.0044" interference. The results of the analysis are attached.
My question is in the interpretation of the results. In the radial stress plot I get high compressive stresses towards the bottom of the fit bore and for the hoop...
In the bolt connector dialog box, if you click on the pin that is next to the ok and cancel icons, the dialog page remains open with all user input left unchanged. All that is required is to click on the appropriate geometry for the remaining bolts in that series.
