    UNREIFORCED BEARING BRICK WALLS

I have a project, where an existing single-story building from the 50's will be converted into a police station. From the international existing building code if you change the occupancy of the building into a higher-risk category then the structure shall conform to the seismic requirements for...

    STEEL SLOPPED COLUMN

They did run a string and is a bow, not a kink. The other end of the beam is a shear connection. Kootk sketch makes sense, if the cap plate of the column was not horizontal when they installed the beam on top of the column, and they installed the bolts this will make the column bow the way...

    STEEL SLOPPED COLUMN

The bean in the picture is a W24x55, with a 17'-6" back span and a 6'-0" cantilever, the column is a HSS 8.625 x 0.322. So, no, the beam is not undersize nor the column.

    STEEL SLOPPED COLUMN

The cap plate is 3/4". When I spoke with the erector, they claimed nothing was forced. But for this to fit perfectly, everything has to be precise. Any suggestion?

    STEEL SLOPPED COLUMN

I have a project under construction where we have some slopped columns. They support a cantilever beam condition. The angle of the column is 75 degrees with the horizontal. The grid of the columns is in a radius. The height of the column, from the finish floor to the top of column is 23'-1"...

jvvse, even if the building is classified as benchmark because of the code use on the design, the building still needs to be evaluated for Tier 1 for foundations and nonstructural elements, correct? thanks

    GSA SEISMIC CERTIFICATION

JAE, thanks for your response. I had read some of the requirements and the building is not excempt. Now, the project is not assigned to the architect yet, he is just submitting the requet for proposal, but the government is requeting a seismic sertification to be submitted with the proposal...

We recently were approach by one of our clients, and architect, he is going after a remodal of a goverment leased building. He submitted a Request for Lease Proposals, on the proposal they are requesting a GSA seismic certification. Now, our client is going after this project, so he might get...

    CMU FLOORS POST TENSION

This job is in Las Cruces, NM, near New Mexico State University. I am not sure how old is this apartment, but is probably the 1970. The end steel plate is to allow the nut to the threaded and create the tension on the steel rods.

    CMU FLOORS POST TENSION

The roof is made the same way, the cmu floor extends into to the room, I did not measure the actual distance, but in the middle of the roof there is steel beam supporting past of the floor. There is a top rod like every 48 inches, and the two rods as seen on the picture. The reason I was...

    CMU FLOORS POST TENSION

Jerehmy, when I first look at the floor, I was sure it was come kind of coreslab, but 16 inches wide, then when I saw closer it looked more like cmu, on the previous picture, the material looks like a cmu, it does not look like actual concrete, look at the attached pic, you can see the blocks...

    CMU FLOORS POST TENSION

Actually that is what I thought at first, but there are some blocks that already broke, and you can see the cmu block, see this picture. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=c65dfbee-d61d-40a7-a641-e3b3829cc6ab&file=IMG_5812.JPG

    CMU FLOORS POST TENSION

Good morning. About a week ago we were contact to go look at some apartments. The apartments are a two story cmu walls. The floors are also cmu, they use some kind of post tension system, I am posting a picture. Well, the problem is, at the end of the cantilever the rods and anchor plates...
