Well, I did some noodling around and have determined the problem has something to do with whether the plane on which the axis is sketched is one of the cardinal planes or not.
When the axes were sketched on the front plane (the X and Y axis examples above), everything worked fine. But out of...
Thanks for the ideas.
A revolved cut won't work because, as you said, generating a pattern that works is problematic (as well as a sketch plane).
The circular pattern idea was one I had been thinking of, but there seems to be a bug as described here...
I need to create a cavity in a part to accommodate this lever handle as it rotates back (just the blue one):

Because it is an irregularly shaped part, I am having trouble working out how to make the cavity for it. Ideally, it would be cool if I could...
I am trying to use circular pattern of bodies with SolidWorks 2010 SP4.0. The axis of the pattern I want to use is a line along the Z axis. However, when I tell SolidWorks to use this axis, it instead makes a pattern based on a line along the X axis that passes through the center of the axis I...
Hmm, I figured out it's the selection filter. But the toolbar is acting wonky and won't let me clear the filters. Good old Solidworks, buggy as hell, it never disappoints.
I guess I'll just spend the rest of the afternoon clicking the toolbar until a combination of clicks clears the filters.
With SolidWorks 2007, I suddenly cannot select the origin while working on a part. Knowing SolidWorks as I do, I gather this is probably a configuration option that turned itself off for some reason. Anyone know how I can turn it back on again?
Normally I hang around in the SolidWorks forum, but I have had an idea for a while and I thought you folks here might be able to help me with it.
Some of our products include, as a component, a length of 1/4" OD Santoprene tubing. We buy this stuff in 200 foot lengths and cut it down using -...
Thanks, Tick.
Nope, nothing like that either. There was one feature, a revolved boss, that was mirrored on one side, but oddly enough the problem occurred on the side of the original revolved base, not its mirror.
Your suggestion gave me an idea, however, so after adding the extrusion on the...
Now this is getting bizarre.
Until now, this feature was made by extruding from the front plane using the midplane method and going out 1.5 inches (.75 each way). This part is completely symmetrical over the front plane. So I experimented this morning on the left side of the part, using the...
Sorry for disappearing like that after I started the thread. Last month was our busiest month ever, and in addition to designing the products, guess who also works in the warehouse doing assembly and shipping?
Anyway, here's an illustration of my problem:
I was able to get the problem...
Now that I am using SolidWorks 2007, I see they have managed to come up with even more nebulous and mystifying error messages than ever before. This is certainly an accomplishment of sorts, as the software was already in my personal top five of most baffling error messages of all time.
So now...
I'm running SW06. I don't like upgrading unless I have to.
I am preventing the hangs by using the Task Manager to delete an EXCEL.EXE process every time I exit a design table. Idiot SolidWorks leaves this process running every time!
Still, the program continues to do other things like refuse...
