    Bearing retaining nut mystery

I took a combination approach. Looking at the shaft with a magnifier I could see the bottom of the threads was more or less flat. Did the best I could to measure the actual minor diameter then opened the nut to match with about .002 clearance. Was still tight but at least I could get a few turns...

    Bearing retaining nut mystery

Yes the replacement nut does not fit. Unfortunately we lost track of the original nut. I don't think the nut will go on far enough to try lapping. After reading this I think running a hone through the nut to flatten the thread might not be a bad idea. That would explain what is happening...

    Bearing retaining nut mystery

We are refurbishing an old Wheelabrator vibratory finisher. Having a problem with the locknut for the bearings. Shaft is 1.562 , 18tpi. This should be a N08 as far as I can tell. Problem is N08 won't fit. Will barely start on the thread and cannot get more than a 1/4 turn on it. No burrs...

Interference fit - bronze ring/sleeve into aluminum

I have some 954 aluminum bronze on the way. A lot of the components in the cooling system are bronze, copper or aluminum so I think the EG will be ok.

Interference fit - bronze ring/sleeve into aluminum

I gave the corrosion issue a lot of thought. Here is a link to a site that explains the problem well. http://www.palmbeachmarinediesel.com/heat-exchangers.html The bronze/aluminum joint does not see salt water. It is normally exposed to ethylene glycol/water (antifreeze). When the o rings...

Interference fit - bronze ring/sleeve into aluminum

I need to put a bronze sleeve into an aluminum casting to repair a corroded surface. At least I would prefer to use bronze as there is salt water involved. However it might be that bronze won't be suitable due to the difference in thermal coefficient of expansion between the casting and the...

Best o ring material for marine heat exchanger

Thank you! I'm getting ready to machine the damaged housing and put in a sleeve to restore the surface. I am trying to decide on aluminum or bronze. I am thinking bronze will be better. See...

Best o ring material for marine heat exchanger

I am looking for a recommendation re the best O ring material to use in a marine heat exchanger. The liquids are sea water and antifreeze (50% ethylene glycol/water). Normal temperature is 180F with 230F maximum. The problem that currently exists is that the o rings take a set and start to...
