Many thanks for the replies on the method and warning.
Both methods work well, but I have one small query.
When solved, the contact data (separation, contact pressure etc) is only available for one component i.e. for only one side of the contact pair. Stresses and deformation are calculated...
Hi All,
Can I simulate a press-fit in Workbench 8. I'm currently actually modelling the assembly of the 2 components (moving a fixed diameter onto tapers)to get the assembled stresses and contact pressures. Can i get the final results just with contact instead, i know i certainly can in...
Hi everyone,
Unfortunately I’m still stuck using mainly Ideas 9 for FEA but have limited access to Workbench 8. I’m still amazed at it stability compared to Ideas. Anyway, I digress.
I want to use Workbench’s lovely automated mesh refinement and convergence on some Ideas simulations as a quick...
Weird answering it yourself but here goes:
Went to bed with my advanced analysis training manuals from version 6 or 8 (such along time ago) and there was a good example of gap elements (what an exciting life i lead, bed with an ideas manual). Looking at the help today on release 9 and that was...
Hi everyone,
I’m after some advice on modelling 2D contact. Originally the 2D model was only intended for feasibility but has progressed to a point now where there might be some good results if I can model the load better. The joint I need to model is the contact of a circular part on a...
Cheers for that, I saw the solution monitoring bars pop up and panicked that it was solving it all. I’ll give that method a proper try later. I can definitely see the benefit of selecting the areas first, especially in the model I have created, as there is only a relatively small area of this...
Cheers for that. One problem though. When i use the method you describe it adds it to the solution tree but the solution has to be rerun to get the results. As the models are 'long running' non-linear this would take to long.
Is there not a method that simply manipulates the results from the...
Hi everyone,
I have been using IDEAS for about 6 years and have really been struggling with the structural non-linear stuff I have been doing recently. Over Christmas I was given access to Ansys workbench 8 and managed to get some really good, nicely converged non-linear results. I cant...
Thanks for the suggestions.
I tried a decent graphics card that i knew was problem free. I was still unable to select curves/wireframe geometry with the new card thus eliminating the possibilty of it being a hardware problem.
Although a bit of an extreme solution re-installing ideas corrected...
Hi,
I can pre select the lines ok but i am not familiar with the RMB listing you suggest. Dont seem to have that when i RMB. But if i use ctrl+M and bring the menus up i can select list/info entity and i get what you would expect i.e.
Part Name : Workbench_wireframe
Curve Id : 2...
Thanks for the suggestion.
Still the same thing happens though. It highlights and the cross even goes up and down the curve as you move the mouse along but still will not select.
Deep in my memory i have an idea i've encountered this before and solved it by changing the wireframe view settings...
Hi,
I cant select curves after they have been created. For example: creating a fillet; selecting curves for an extrude; create a section. The curves highlight ok when the mouse goes over them but it will not select. If you can drag a bounding box around, like for an extrude, it works fine...
Many thanks that is very helpful.
I just did a very course mesh with linear tets and it solved in about 3mins. I forgot the speed on of linear tets although insuring accuracy is the thing now. I haven’t really used linear tets for structural analysis before. I’m thinking it’s ok as long as...
