Generation Conflict - Changing The Wheel

Tend to agree with TheTick or just get really persistent, if you have got something, someone will eventually listen.

    What to do?

    Fixing the speed wobble problems

I'm going to start a new thread, re tyre choice

    What to do?

Ajack1 'I really don't see this as an ethics issue at all, as a reasonable human being you should do the right thing as a professional hired engineer even more so.' This to my mind is exactly what ethics is. On the OP, you will definitely be on the wrong end of the justice stick if it became...

    DIY exhaust

Must admit I took a stab at the thickness, the old pipes are fairly crusty with rust. The do look like they were fairly solid when new so I would still say 1mm or so.

    DIY exhaust

Ah the chicken and egg situation. I have only a rough idea about both, the answer to one, determining the other to an extent. I would guess radius down to 100mm on centreline of pipe and gauge of around 12 to 16 swg roughly 1.5 to 2.5 mm thick. OD of pipe roughly 40 to 60 mm.

    DIY exhaust

Anyone know where (in UK) I can source bends suitable to make downpipes, mild steel or stainless? I can find plenty options for larger bore car exhausts but not for the smaller bike stuff. Alternatively, source of straight pipe and method of bending. Most readily available pipe benders tend to...

    Fixing the speed wobble problems

TurbineGen, you must be thinking of old Dunlops, I can't fault the current pair I have on my modern sportsbike, in wet or dry. The modern tyres I have tried (Bridgestone, Michelin, Dunlop) seem to have very little to choose between them at my level of skill/daring

    Allowable bending stress

I am assuming this for your own personal use. Please consult any relevant codes if not. One way of looking at this is as a 'safety' factor. 0.66fy without any additional load factor is the same as a safety factor of 1.5. So decide what safety factor you require and work to that, for all the...

    Finish symbol on drawing

If it can possibly be mis-read I would define exactly what I want and not rely on the reader having as good or better understanding of the standard than I do.

    Fixing the speed wobble problems

try writing to the classic bike magazines published in the uk, for recommendations regarding tyre choice & pressures. From personal experience my old (but much newer than than these 70's bike) had the same problem at 100mph +. Seemed to go away when I replaced the rear spring & damper.

    Is engineering boring?

Just curious now, what kind of positions / job function do all you guys /gals have? I've moved within the company recently to a job with a faster paced day to day manufacturing problem solving type of work from design / analysis. The pace certainly suits me better and I haven't had to totally...
