obtaining simulink variables for use in a c++ program

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help? I am writing a c++ program which needs to have access (read only) to simulink variables to update a third application. I have no knowledge of simulink whatsoever, but believe this can be done... Any advice would be much appreciated.
