I thought if I include yield and tangent modulus, in case the stresses exceed yield strength of the material, there will be some permanent deformation. Maybe I am mistaken. I will read up more about it.
Thanks.
I have a supported sheet metal structure (like a spring) which is deflected by a certain amount, and then relaxed. I am expecting to see some permanent set, but it seems either my property specs are not right, or I am making some mistake setting up the analysis.
As for properties, for the sheet...
I have read the GDT book which outlines examples on parallelism and flatness tolerancing and how one orientation and the other is form type of tolerance. Can somebody help me interpret the attached JPEG example? I came across this example where parallelism was called out on the datum surface...

I have been having convergence issues with a contact problem that I have set up. Can somebody give me generic pointers in how to go about debugging why the problem is not converging?
To give a very generic backgrouund - I have a steel component which has a remote displacement boundary...
Gluing the volumes is what came to mind first but since I have moved to WBE I have not figured out the best way to do it. In Classic it was pretty straightforward.
Let me try it using named selections and vglue in Commands snippet. Anybody has done this before?
Thanks.
Since I have not heard from anybody on this issue, here are a few pictures to describe the setup:
picture 1 shows the properties for the all three cuboids, and the center cuboid is the one showing erratic deformations. The top side contact is no separation and the bottom side is bonded...
Thanks for the response. I am trying to figure out how to add a code snippet to force reduced-integration elements.
On your suggestion on meshing: the only purpose of this cuboid is dis[placement effects. I am not interested in stresses. I have tried many different meshing strategies (coarse...

Am having terrible convergence issues in the model that I have set up. After days of debugging I have narrowed it down to at least the problem location.
I have a very low Youngs Modulus material (X) sandwiched between two high Young's Modulus materials : B - bottom and T-top.
The...
I need to model a spongy material for which I am only interested in its performance (stiffness) in the Z direction. My scope does not need me to see the stresses/strains in the spongy material.
Following is what I have (if Z is my vertical):
1) Cross sectional area (X-Y plane) of this...
I agree with you about writing a .mp file for the material data. Will do that.
As for the material properties source - I work for a company who is neither the buyer of the material or the manufacturer of the component. I am designing the component and having a supplier manufacture it for me. I...

I am wondering what is the best source (am willing to pay a subscription fee) for comprehensive material properties data? Ideally if the source is tailored to Ansys users (so that I can directly import the properties database into my Ansys db file), that would be perfect.
Especially for...
I am new to workbench environment. I am using v 10.0 and have questions about how to get results information about a specific location.
For example: I need directional deformation data on only one face. I can plot it by selecting only that one face, but how can I dump the data into ascii...

I need inputs on setting up a model (static structural) if I want to estimate the stiffness of a support component in an assembly.
The assembly is complex, but the support component is a fairly straightforward stamped steel structure. How do you recommend setting up the model to compute...
