    Masking and spotface - difference?

Got it - thanks for the clarification guys! Much appreciated.

    Masking and spotface - difference?

I know, there's no dumb questions, but this feels like a dumb question, so here goes: What's the difference between masking and spotface? I was reading this thread: http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=242333&page=1 ...and the discussion at one point was "masking vs. spotface." Having...

    Masking Chromic Anodising

Hi Chris - We have more information at our website - http://www.viadon.com - and although there is not a specific "anodizing" link (this is due to the variety of tapes which can be used for it), check out the "Tapes - Lead foil", "Tapes - Aluminum foil", "Tapes for Powder Coating" and "Tapes -...

    Masking Chromic Anodising

Chris - I admit I am not familiar enough with all of the specifics of anodizing to know exactly what chromic anodizing involves as far as heat and chemicals. However, my company does provide masking tape to a lot of anodizers, and I'd bet that at least a few of them are doing chromic...

powder coating - before or after machining?

Depending on the areas of the part that require masking, some masking is designed to avoid creating the sharp edges, and custom masks can be designed to "feather" the powder as well. An alternative method (as described before) is to remove the masking prior to curing the powder. This method...

Paint Removal on Assembly Line - What is efficient and safe?

dbooker630 - I'm a Viadon (Dave), but any of the other companies can help you too. Tolber only carries liquid maskants, the rest of us design molded and die cut masking.

Paint Removal on Assembly Line - What is efficient and safe?

Our company designs custom masks for difficult-to-mask areas - we'd be happy to take a look at the part and see if we can help you, or even refer you to a specialized firm if necessary. If we couldn't help you out, they certainly could.

    Wet Paint Reclaimation?

I don't think you'll find a way to reclaim wet spray that is actually practical. I may be wrong about that, and if I am, I've got lots of customers that would certainly be interested! I think a better solution would be to work towards increasing your line density, depending on whether the...

    Issues with powdercoat masking

For the through holes, pull plugs might be a viable option as well, as long as the parts are not more than 1" thick (as most pull plugs are 1" long for handle, 1" masking area). Pull plugs may be oversized above the part diameter by up to 5%-7% - this is often the case in plating situations...

    Issues with powdercoat masking

Suggest to your powder coating supplier that they try using flangeless plugs. They are of a ribbed design, and they designed specifically for masking threaded holes for powder coating. That should eliminate the problem. We carry them (see here: www.viadon.com), but most any other powder...

    Rubber tubes with varying ID

As a custom converter, we do similar projects along those lines quite often.. See our website - www.viadon.com. Let me know if we can help.

Mystik 7455 Tape a.k.a "Rocket Tape"

Silverspeed, I checked with one of my suppliers, and he couldn't even find a cross-reference to that tape. Are you looking to match a current tape with the Mystik tape? At the very least, I can hook you up with some samples of some foil/glass tapes (which I can get specs for), though I...

Which rubber will grip a teflon coated part the best?

In my completely UN-scientific experiments here using several different kinds of rubber (simply pulling them across Teflon tape), EPDM rubber seems to "hold" the best. Of course, anyone with more scientific info is welcome to refute (or support) that. Hope that helps.

    What's the deal with silicone?

I'm probably not the right person to answer this, but I hope this may help explain it. There are many different "flavors" of silicone that can be produced: hard rubber, soft rubber, foam rubber, liquid adhesive, pressure sensitive adhesive, and yes, paint that includes silicone. If I...

Masking Material & Analyzing Phosphorus content

Lead foil tape with natural rubber adhesive is probably the most widely used masking for hard chrome, however, you may also have good luck with 7 mil vinyl tape (that will give you pretty much every color of the rainbow and then some). We stock and slit both of these kinds of tapes, however...
