ABs new Controllogix line allows multiple users to be online at the same time. We had had three different guys working on their respective sections of the program at the same time. The only thing required is that each user has a local copy of the program open. Worked great. The only problem we...
Thanks PSE
In your ladder, then, do the bottom-feeders have any real need for communication with the Project Manager, or does the Senior Engineer act as a liason for scheduling info?

I assume you do have Programming software for the Micrologix. I wouldn't recommend driving the output directly. Instead try using a bit in an integer data table to turn on the output. What is probably happening is that you are turning the output on, but the processor does not have...
Proceed with caution swagger.
I am away from home 100-120 nights per year. I'm sitting in a hetel romm right now. A few points to consider. You WILL find it very difficult to get things done at home. You will find it difficult to make plans with friends and family and keep them. You'll miss...

Out company is also implementing a 'technical' track and it sounds promising. Instead of advancing to 'Project Mananger', we are developing a 'Technical Lead' and 'Technical Director' postion. I think it's a great idea. How do the responsibilities of a large project get divided up in your...

I by no means have any broad experience in the HVAC/R industry. I am a controls engineer and have been involved in a very large plant startup for over a year. The Air Handlers and Refrigeration systems have been an controls problem from day one. The plant wants all of the equipment tied...
Have you considered load cells for the tank? I don't know if your application would allow for flexible couplings, to allow the tank to be freestanding..I have used Kistler-Morse load cells with pretty good results on fluid apps...10K gallon tanks.
Hope this helps..

You are absolutely right. I reread my post and was not very clear in what I was trying to express. I made some broad generalizations based on a few specific experiences I have had. That's the problem with rants, I guess.
Thanks,

Sorry Hamish, The full reference is "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey.
I have read the book and am actively going though it again, due to the positive effects it has had on my performance even from my first half-hearted attempt. I've also noticed I...
I was wondering how many people actively organize/prioritize thier goals. Most of the people I work with have a nice shiny planner, but essentially it is a calendar and address book. I have read Covey's Seven Habits book and he has a fairly complex and time consuming method for planning and...
RKA and ICMan.... Excellent Posts!
I felt the same way as a lot of the other posts on this thread, until I had to try management myself. It involves a completely different skillset. I work for a small company that is trying to learn how to get by as a mid-size company. We have a long way to...
It's refreshing to hear of clients who know their scope is going to change. If it is a large project with many different stakeholders, you may want to consider forming a Change Board. This concept is from Steve McConnells "Rapid Software Development". It essentially involves having a...
