    Wood post Cracks

The column size sounds way too big for a deck. Also, the larger the column the higher the probability of checks presence. 100 psf LL for a residential balcony seems a bit excessive. Per ASCE 7 table 4.3-1: Residential Floor LL = 40 psf Residential Balcony LL = 40 psf * 1.5 = 60 psf Two...

Floor load error in STAAD Pro Connect

Cool. Yes, in the past, we used to import a model drawn in CAD into STAAD. if the joints were not 100% connected, the model would have a disconnection errors. Obviously, you did not have that issue.

Floor load error in STAAD Pro Connect

Good to see that you are reviewing the programs output for sanity checks. I am curious if you were able to resolve this issue? A couple of questions come to mind: Did you use area load command? Are all joints connected? I am old STAAD user, never used the connect version, and I prefer to use...

Effective Wind Area - Stud Wall with Parapet

ASCE clearly defines the "span" from support to support. For further reading consult Guide to the Wind Load Provisions of ASCE 7-10 by Kishor C. Mehta, Ph.D., P.E. and William L. It has been a long while since I have been in this forum. Hello everyone. I want to pick everyone’s brain here. I have been called, of course after the fact, to evaluate a situation where a contractor has already installed a beam, 9.33’ span made up from SYP number 2. The beam is supporting 5...

    Digitally sign Structural drawing

My current certificate will expire in few months and they are raising their fees. For cost comparison, before I renew, would you tell me which one they pointed you to? Their website and selections do not have FL board of engineers.

    Fall Protection on Platform

OSHA and now ASCE 7 part 4.6.5 has provisions as the fall protection forces. ASCE 7 requires 3100 pounds live load. Keep in mind, if I recall correctly, when designing for these forces, you can use the ultimate strength.

    Digitally sign Structural drawing

Florida has strict procedures for digital signing and sealing. We cannot rely on simply using digital signature in Acrobat or Bluebeam. Hopefully the following link will help you: https://fbpe.org/legal/signing-and-sealing-engineering-documents/ Lutfi
