    Career Road Block

Manufacturing is not a place (usually) for analytical engineering. In manufacturing, engineers tend to be firefighters..... Keep the line running and make sure the product is in spec. Unless your facility has a design group attached to the manufacturing facility, there probably aren't any PEs...

Certificates added on to a BS in Chemical Engineering

It sounds like it would be a good addition to your resume. It will only cost you a little more time and may open an avenue for you that would have otherwise been closed.

    Question about year end review

I agree with Tygerdawg. It is probably just in reference to your 'soft skills'.

Can a contract employee be salaried exempt?

You work for company A. I don't know that it matters how company B has you designated. A company B has to check your work not because of your status but because you are a contractor not an employee. Maybe I am missing something?

I'm not in it for the money...I'm not in it for the money...

Concerning yourself with other people's salaries is a losing proposition. As long as you are making enough to satisfy you and your lifestyle, don't sweat it. I imagine that if you look long enough you will find people making more with less experience and less with more experience.

I'm not in it for the money...I'm not in it for the money...

Just take comfort in knowing that there is a level of security in your position that private sector does not have. (No guarantees but surely better job security.)

Should I learn to weld, how to design LED lighting, or fire dance?

I don't know how practical it is for your career but I have always wanted to learn how to weld.

    interview dress code for engineers

Wear the suit....carry the steel toed boots. Just wear a suit that you are willing to sacrifice should it become necessary. It will show that you know the importance of image but don't necessarily get caught up in it.

Why haven't I yet met my new boss?

I get what you are saying about being visible but how do I ensure that he doesn't see that as needing hand-holding? A fine line I know. In the past, I have just sent weekly updates on the task he assigned. I'm still feeling my way with this new guy. He's trying to learn everything at once...

Why haven't I yet met my new boss?

I finally did meet him. He seems perfectly normal medicineEng. He just has his focus on a lot of things and was under the impression that I had plenty to occupy me in the mean time. I now have new direction and feel much better. Even better, I still don't have to see him and only talk to him...

    Ethics of MBE & WBE

I did not say that white males were the only ones hired. I simply said that it is easier for like to hire like therefore some consideration has to be given to balance the work force. The person hired still has to be qualified for the position/job but given the option of hiring someone that you...

    Ethics of MBE & WBE

par060: What country/world do you live in again? The only thing that has changed is whether the racism/sexism is overt or covert. The truth is that it is easier for a person in the position to hire (read white male most often) someone like them than someone not like them. It is more...

Why haven't I yet met my new boss?

Thanks everyone. I guess I am looking a gift horse in the mouth. My old boss made sure we set my objectives for the next 6 months so that is not an issue. Onward and upward.

Why haven't I yet met my new boss?

Hello all: I am currently reporting to an out of town manager. My position is such that it is basically just me performing the tasks of this department. My boss recently told me that my department will be reporting to another division and that my new boss is a new hire. I am apparently his...
