Soldering of copper tubes for medical gases transportation

You are talking about Medical Gas piping! The fluxes used for "Tin-Soldering" can and will kill if inhaled, hence the large build up of Medical Gas Code, from the NFPA code. Most required silver-solder must have a melting point above 1000* F, and usually a silver content above 15%. This of...

    UL/AGA Listed Teflon Tape

We have observed all of the problems listed in the quote on my reply at one time or another. We DO NOT use Teflon (PTFE) tape under any circumstances. Pipe paste has been used for years without Teflon, if they could do it then, we can do it now. It looks unprofessional, and almost every person...

    UL/AGA Listed Teflon Tape

I imagine it is due to improper application, or "over" application, if you will. Hence the quote; "Over-use, or mis-application of thread tape may be a hazard. An excess amount of tape can prevent mating threads from fully engaging, therefore reducing the shear point of the threads. The use...

    UL/AGA Listed Teflon Tape

Is there any information listing as to why Yellow teflon tape is UL/AGA (American Gas Association), listed for use on gas pipe, and as to why "white" teflon tape is not? What we've been finding, the unlisted "white" tape shreds easier, and clogs gas regulators, to the point of non-operation...

    Domestic Hot Water Tank?

Is it actually the Temp/Pressure Safety Valve that qualifies a Domestic Hot water tank as NOT being a boiler? 210 *F/150 psi Safety Valve Rating for use on a DHWT.

Conversion from Flame Rod to UV Detector

Is it a sizing thing? At what point do you switch from a flame rod to a UV Detector on gas fired boilers? Converting the Weishaupt burner from a flame rod to a UV is causing some problems....which brings me to my questions. Thank You for the help Gentlemen.

Oil removal from Low Pressure Steam Boilers?

Upon new installation of cast iron sectional steam boilers, low pressure, how is it best to remove oil from the boiler? Surface blow-down appears to be working, just extremely slow. An old wash-down recipe was the use of soda-ash combined with kerosene. Anyone doing that type of work these...

adding amines in a steam system

On another note, aren't there "three" types of Amines? One that works on piping systems "close" to the boiler, another that works on the piping systems "far" from the boiler, and now a third, which is a combination of the first two, hoping to work on systems that have long runs of pipe, and to...

Low water cutoff slow drain test - Section VI vs Section VII

Are we talking an Evaporative Test? Doesn't code require these to be performed at least once a year? LWFCO's shouldn't fail with a "slow" type of bleed down....think I'd be calling the manufacture if that became a problem. Jmcx1969, what style/model LWCO were you using?

Monitoring the run status of a boiler

As said, DDC control, or/and pressure reading.

Schedule 40 Malleable Iron fittings for fuel oil piping?

PipesandPumps is all over it. Sch 40 is plenty for fuel oil as are threaded fittings/pipe. Socket weld is too excessive for such an application. Costs of Labor and material would kill the job. The installing pipe fitters would think you were crazy.

    Boiler Feed Water Tank

As said above, the tank must be stamped as a pressure vessel, to be used as such. On that system, it is most likely not a pressure vessel. Since the system has not been used for a couple of years, my only question would be-How was the boiler "laid-up"? Hopefully it was in dry lay-up packed with...

    boiler safety valve rating

The amount of Safety Valves is dependent on the heating surface area of the boiler, the burner size in comparison to boiler capacity, and one other item that slips my mind at this time....
