Piping wall thickness calculation during hydrotest condition

Asme b31.3 is for piping. The assumption is that the piping is essentially flat, so no elevation applies. B31.3 is essentially stress at max 2/3 SMYS or 1/3 UTS whichever is lower. Many steels fall into the UTS category. But if not design pressure gives max 2/3 SMYS. Hydro at ambient...

Question About Escape of Pressurized Hot Water

I think you're missing where on the pipe the leak is. Right on the top you're more likely to get steam, but the third hand tale you're telling is not the same conditions. There is a lot of steam missing here and some tale from superheated steam which can be nearly invisible has been...

    Pressure balanced axial bellows

They are both just set up that way for transportation. You will need to loosen off the bolts in the middle or the joint won't move axially to compress.

3 phase separator, oil bucket front and water weir at the same height

What does this look like in view down. Does the high point on the oil bucket stretch all the way across? Don't forget your oil sits above the water. How are the levels controlled?

AA jet and Military helicopter collide over Potomac

Is it just also a change of altitude max?

    Pump Automation

Great but you still haven't told us how you solved it. We've put time and either into this post and would like to know how it finally got solved. Please. I,e, what you have done differently or what have you changed?

Using a backpressure regulator to maintain a minimum pressure

I'm with snickster here. It's not clear what is controlling flow? But if the inlet side of your back pressure valve goes above 10psi it will just go full open and then you have the pressure drop across a fully open valve to deal with

B31.4 Existing Pipe is Overstressed -what's the path forward?

How far you need to model is not fixed. If no clear anchor or line stop then I would go at least 200m from your modification. Might be a bit excessive, but when you make changes, you get blamed for anything happening even if the fault or overstress is already there. So model it now in its as...

B31.4 Existing Pipe is Overstressed -what's the path forward?

Not enough information to make a comment. B31.4 is not the best code for above ground systems and all code will be conservative as will any analysis. Reality is different. Looks very low stress for pressure so lots available for thermal.

    Tapped axial holes on tube

Yes it does. That's what I was suggesting in post #17, but if you can make it as a ingle forging or similar than that's better than added reinforcement.

The wheels are falling off the Net Zero Bandwagon 2025 edition

well they learned in the UK from the 2019 blackout that they needed to modify a whole bunch of settings. And also how loosing some elements or getting a "wobble" also dropped out a significant amount of domestic solar, which took time to re-instate. There is no doubt that all the grid...

    Tapped axial holes on tube

Given that this is essentially a plug which is being held in, why don't you use the upstand flange which is already there and hold the plug in with a set of pins in shear into the whole of the wall thickness?? You could probably tap the up stand flange element to make the pins flush. See below...

Tubeside Gas Velocity Range on Heat Exchanger

Not sure about HX's but high velocity liquid droplets in a gas stream above about 7 to 10m/sec are going to erode whatever the first thing is that it touches. Very rapidly. Need to talk to to some HX vendors before you go modelling something which can't be built

    Hydrogen Embrittlement ASTM A574

Do you have a sectional diagram of the bolt installation? That looks more to me like crevice corrosion / fatigue of the bolt on the left caused by stress concentration at the point it enters the hole. but its not really possible to see is it he bolt that's the issue or the design?

Remote CCTV Towers Solar Powered - Battery Pack options

You need to determine required power for "your" system. A 10K solar panel and batteries will give you something like worst case 3-4kwh in winter and a lot more in summer. So a power draw of 125 to 150 W. what does your CCTV system need? Solar powered systems exist for many remote electrical...
